Removals to Cyprus can mean a few boxes, a furniture shipment, a full home move or a return move back to the UK. This page covers the sea route, the customs forms, what changes the price. And the one thing most Cyprus pages leave out: the north and the south are not the same move.

Household goods leave from south east England by sea. Operators publish direct sailings from London Gateway to Limassol at around 16 days. While others consolidate in London and Manchester and quote closer to 13 days port to port. Neither figure includes collection, the wait for a part load to fill, clearance or final delivery.
Where you live in the UK changes the road leg, not the sailing. A Kent collection reaches the port in an afternoon. A Glasgow collection carries 400 miles or more of road before the sea freight starts, and that shows up in both the price and the collection window.
Since the UK left the EU it is treated as a third country by Cyprus customs. Used personal effects can be imported free of duty and VAT under transfer of residence relief if you have owned and used them for at least six months, subject to conditions on prior residence outside the EU and on when the goods arrive.
Return moves are used by people whose posting has ended, families going back for schooling, retirees returning to be near relatives, and executors clearing a Cypriot property. The shipment can be a full home, a part load, furniture only, or boxes.
Goods arriving into Great Britain may need import checks. Transfer of Residence relief can apply when you are moving your place of residence back and claiming relief on used personal belongings. The mover should tell you exactly what is needed before collection, not after the container has sailed.
Return enquiries should include the Cypriot collection town, the UK delivery postcode, the inventory size, access at both ends, whether anything needs holding in storage, and whether the goods are already packed.
Most removals pages treat Cyprus as one destination. It is not. Kyrenia, Famagusta city, Iskele, Esentepe, Alsancak and Lapta sit north of the buffer zone, under a separate administration with its own customs regime and its own port arrangements.
Shipments to the north mostly do not arrive at Limassol. Operators on that service run ro-ro and container sailings from Mersin in Turkey into Famagusta, which changes the transit time, the paperwork and the cost. A quote built on a Limassol sailing is the wrong quote for a Kyrenia delivery.
Tell the mover the delivery town at the enquiry stage, not after the quote. It is the single detail that most often makes a Cyprus quote wrong.
One vehicle per family member may qualify for relief under the same transfer of residence framework, subject to the six month ownership condition and to the vehicle arriving within twelve months of the move. Clearance and registration are handled separately, through Cyprus customs and then the Department of Road Transport. A vehicle shipped from a right hand drive country is a different proposition and worth raising early.
The largest British community on the island, and most of it lives in the villages rather than the town. Peyia and Coral Bay, Chloraka, Tala, Geroskipou, Kissonerga, Emba, Kathikas and Tsada. Polis and Latchi sit further north, and Kouklia and Anarita to the east. Village access is the usual problem: narrow lanes, gated developments and long carries from the nearest place a lorry can stop.
Limassol is the port of entry and the business centre, with Germasogeia, Agios Tychonas, Mesa Geitonia and Ypsonas around it, and Pissouri along the coast towards Episkopi. Larnaca covers Mackenzie and Finikoudes, with Oroklini, Pyla, Aradippou, Pervolia and Kiti nearby. Apartment deliveries here usually need parking arranged in advance.
Ayia Napa, Protaras and Paralimni, with Dherynia, Sotira, Liopetri, Xylofagou, Frenaros and Avgorou around them. Nicosia is inland and takes in Strovolos, Latsia, Engomi, Aglantzia, Lakatamia, Geri, Tseri, Dali and Nisou, plus the Troodos hill villages of Kakopetria, Platres and Pedoulas. Lefkara sits between Nicosia and Larnaca.
Some people search for this service in Greek, using phrases such as μεταφορές Κύπρος, διεθνείς μετακομίσεις or μεταφορικές εταιρείες. In the north you may hear nakliyat, taşımacılık or evden eve nakliyat. Limassol is the main commercial port and handles most household goods arriving from the UK. Larnaca is the island's second port. Moves to Northern Cyprus route differently, usually through Mersin in Turkey to Famagusta.
