Not every move to Cyprus is a house move. A great many are furniture shipments: the things worth taking, sent to a property that is otherwise being furnished locally. This page is about what actually goes in the box.
The most common shipment to Cyprus is not a full household. It is a bedroom suite, a sofa, a dining table, some pictures, and thirty boxes of the things nobody wants to buy twice.
Cypriot furniture is widely available and often cheaper than shipping a like for like replacement, which is why people ship selectively. What travels tends to be either expensive, sentimental, or hard to replace.
What matters then is not how much space it takes but how well it survives. That comes down to packing, crating and how each piece is declared.
Furniture reaches the whole island on this journey. Goods clear at Limassol and deliver to Paphos, Larnaca, Nicosia and the Famagusta free areas. With the road leg from the port running between nothing and about 100 kilometres depending on the town.
Beds, mattresses, wardrobes, sofas, dining tables and chairs, desks, bookcases. Pictures, mirrors and framed art. Rugs. Kitchen equipment that is genuinely good. Books, which are heavy and which people take anyway.
White goods are worth a thought rather than an assumption. Cyprus runs on 240 volts with UK style plugs, so a British appliance works without an adapter, which is unusual in Europe. Whether an eight year old washing machine is worth the freight is a separate question.
Garden furniture, tools, bicycles and sports equipment travel routinely. Anything with a fuel tank needs the tank drained and declared.
Export packing is not the same as domestic packing. Goods on a sea route are handled more times, travel further, and spend a fortnight in a steel box that gets hot and humid. Wrapping that survives a van across town does not necessarily survive that.
Mirrors, glass tabletops, marble, large framed art and anything with a fragile finish are the usual candidates for a purpose built timber crate. It costs more per item and it is the difference between arriving and arriving in pieces.
Owner packed boxes are usually accepted, but they are often excluded from insurance cover for damage, because nobody can verify what went in or how. If a box contains something you would be upset to lose, let the mover pack it.
Flammables and pressurised items do not go in a household container. Paints, solvents, aerosols, gas bottles, lighter fuel, fuel cans. Neither do firearms or ammunition without entirely separate arrangements.
Plants, soil, seeds and some foodstuffs are restricted on movement into Cyprus and are best left out unless you have checked specifically. Alcohol in quantity may attract duty even within a household shipment.
None of this is a complete list, and restrictions change. Ask the moving company to confirm against the current position before you pack anything you are unsure about.
Marine transit cover is usually offered as a percentage of declared value, and the declaration is yours to make. Undervaluing to save a small premium is a false economy that only shows up when something is damaged.

Ask what the excess is, whether it applies per item or per claim, and whether owner packed boxes are covered. Those three answers tell you what the cover is really worth.

Rules and thresholds change. Use the Republic of Cyprus Department of Customs and Excise and GOV.UK for the current position rather than any removals page. If the property is a holiday home rather than your main residence, say so before anything ships: transfer of residence relief applies to a main home and duty and VAT may be payable on a second one.
