Cyprus to Germany is a sea leg followed by a long drive. Goods land at Trieste and travel north, which puts Bavaria within a day and Hamburg the better part of two. Germany is also the country with the most paperwork attached to the delivery itself.
Collection runs from across the Republic. Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca, Nicosia and the Famagusta free areas are all served. With a road leg to the port of up to about 100 kilometres before anything sails.
From Trieste the northbound leg is around 500 kilometres to Munich, 900 to Frankfurt and over 1,200 to Hamburg. The alternative for northern addresses is a long-sea route into Rotterdam or Antwerp, which removes the drive and adds weeks.
Two German requirements catch people out, and neither has anything to do with shipping.
German cities do not let a removal lorry simply park outside. You apply for a Halteverbotszone, a temporary no-parking area, through the local Ordnungsamt. Signs go up in advance and the space is legally reserved.
Notice periods vary by city but commonly run from several days to around two weeks, and there is a fee. It is more formalised than the equivalent in Britain or France, and it is not something to arrange the week of the move.
Ask whether the mover applies for it or whether it falls to you. Both are normal. The answer decides who is responsible if the signs are not up on the day. And that is worth knowing in advance rather than on a pavement in Munich.
Most German cities operate an Umweltzone, a low emission zone that vehicles may only enter displaying the correct windscreen sticker. A removal vehicle without one cannot legally reach an address inside the zone.
Any mover working Germany regularly will have this covered. One routed in from elsewhere may not, and the problem surfaces at the edge of the city rather than at your door.
If your address is central, ask directly. It is a five second question with a straightforward answer.
Nineteenth century Altbau blocks are common across German cities and they bring high ceilings, wide rooms and narrow, winding staircases. Furniture that fits the flat often will not fit the stairs.
The usual answer is a Möbellift, an exterior furniture lift working through a window. It is routine in Germany, it needs booking, and on some streets it needs the same permit as the parking zone.
Hinterhof buildings, set behind a front block around a courtyard, add a carry from the street through an archway. Send a photograph of the entrance and the staircase and the mover will price it correctly first time.
Cyprus and Germany are both EU member states, so goods already in free circulation move without extra customs duty. Proof of Union status, using T2L or T2LF documents, replaces any relief claim.
Say whether you are keeping the Cypriot property as a holiday home rather than leaving entirely. Because a partial move is treated differently from a full residence transfer.
Rules change. Confirm with the Republic of Cyprus Department of Customs and Excise, and with GOV.UK if any leg of the move touches Britain.

Both arrangements are normal. Ask which applies, because the answer decides who is responsible if the signs are not up on the day, and that is far better settled in advance.

A good proportion of enquiries here come from outside the UK. Removals is the British word. Moving company is the one used almost everywhere else. It is the same service and the same mover either way.
The island is covered end to end. Local access is set out page by page.
