The Institute of Science and Technology Austria at Maria Gugging employs roughly 1,300 staff and more than 400 doctoral students from about 80 nationalities. Arrivals are tied to fixed contract or doctoral start dates rather than spread through the year.
Serving international removals, relocation and shipping to Lower Austria from anywhere in the UK. Klosterneuburg is about 1,450 km from London and 18 km from central Vienna. A dedicated vehicle takes three to four days, a shared load six to nine. Most moves land between £900 and £5,600. Nearly every arrival here is timed to a research contract. We match you with one vetted moving company for your route, free.
Klosterneuburg removals are dominated by one campus. The town of about 27,500 sits on the Danube where the Vienna Woods meet the river, eighteen kilometres from the centre of Vienna, and it hosts one of the more remarkable research institutions in Europe.
The Institute of Science and Technology Austria, at Maria Gugging on the edge of the town, opened its campus in 2009 and has grown to around 90 research groups. It employs roughly 1,300 staff and more than 400 doctoral students drawn from about 80 nationalities, and it operates as an English-speaking institute. For a UK researcher that removes the language barrier that keeps most Austrian academic posts out of reach.
In removals terms that produces a very particular pattern. Arrivals are tied to fixed contract or doctoral start dates, shipments are modest but not tiny, storage is often needed while campus or town housing is arranged, and the return leg matters as much as the outbound one because postdoctoral posts run to a term.
Klosterneuburg is reached through Vienna and out along the Danube on the B14, roughly 1,450 km from London. Vehicles serving the town come off a Vienna run almost without exception, so frequency is effectively the capital's and the detour adds little.
The town is also a practical alternative to a Vienna address. It is on the S-Bahn and the Danube cycle route, twenty minutes from Heiligenstadt, and property is larger for the money without the Altbau stairwell problem that shapes so many inner-city deliveries.
Two service types cover almost every move on this route. A shared load puts your goods on a vehicle with other customers' belongings, and you pay only for the space you use. A dedicated vehicle carries your household alone and runs to your date. The right choice is usually decided by how firm your dates are, not by how much you are shipping.
Klosterneuburg movers, Klosterneuburg removals and a removal to Klosterneuburg all mean one job: a European removal by road, priced on volume and distance. Most arrivals here are research postings with a fixed start date, so the removal services that matter are storage and timing rather than access.
Most household moves here land between £900 and £5,600. These are planning ranges, not quotes. Klosterneuburg benchmarks with Vienna, marginally above on distance and below on handling because the housing is newer and easier. Birmingham to Vienna runs at about £1,039 for 5 cubic metres and £3,489 for 30; expect close to that here.
| Move size | Roughly | Planning range |
|---|---|---|
| Boxes and a few items | 1 to 3 m³ | £755 to £1,060 |
| Doctoral or postdoc move | about 5 m³ | £900 to £1,400 |
| One to two bedroom | about 10 m³ | £1,350 to £2,040 |
| Two bedroom part load | about 15 m³ | £2,050 to £3,140 |
| Three bedroom dedicated | about 30 m³ | £3,560 to £5,600 |
Scottish and Northern Irish collections add roughly 10 per cent, because of the extra distance to the Channel crossing. Stairs, lifts, parking, packing and temporary holding all move the final figure.
Send your collection postcode, the delivery address, your date and a rough inventory. One vetted moving company checks the route and comes back with a real figure. Free, and no obligation to book.
Used belongings normally enter free of duty, but only if the timings line up and your address registration is done. The customs checklist has the conditions in full.
Most of the town is straightforward. The residential districts along the Danube and around the station are twentieth century, with vehicle access to the building, parking and lifts in the apartment stock.
The historic core around the Augustinian monastery, founded in 1114 and still running one of Austria's oldest wine estates, is the restricted part. Streets there are narrow and permit-controlled, and the usual shuttle arrangement applies.
Campus and institute housing at Maria Gugging generally has good access, but delivery slots are often set by building management and site security may want a named driver in advance. Book the slot before the vehicle. Addresses climbing into the Vienna Woods above the town narrow and steepen, so confirm the last few hundred metres.
Almost never. Hiring a removal van and driving there yourself looks cheap until you add fuel, the Channel crossing, German and Austrian tolls, the motorway Vignette, overnight stops and one way hire fees. You also carry the customs declaration alone. A shared load with a professional removal company is usually cheaper and far simpler.
Around 80 nationalities on site. It is why UK researchers land here rather than at a German-speaking Austrian university.
S-Bahn into the city in about twenty minutes, with larger property and none of the Altbau stairwell problems.
As a planning guide, a 5 cubic metre shared load to Klosterneuburg runs about 900 to 1,400 pounds, a 15 cubic metre part load about 2,050 to 3,140 pounds, and a 30 cubic metre dedicated vehicle about 3,560 to 5,600 pounds. Ranges are compiled from published 2026 competitor route rates. Collections in Scotland and Northern Ireland typically add around 10 per cent.
That is worth settling before the day. Austrian residential streets rarely have space for a lorry to stand for several hours, so a reserved bay is usually arranged in advance through the district office. Without one the crew carries further, and a long carry is charged.
Usually not. Used household goods clear duty free under Uebersiedlungsgut relief when you have lived outside the EU for at least twelve consecutive months, have owned and used the goods for six months, and import within twelve months of changing residence. Austrian VAT is 20 per cent if relief does not apply.
Yes, by roughly ten per cent on equivalent volumes, because of the extra distance to the Channel crossing. Aberdeen and Dundee sit at the top of that spread. It is a real difference rather than a mover marking you up, and it should be visible on the quote.
Ask what updates you get and from whom. On a dedicated vehicle the driver is usually contactable. On a shared load your goods sit at a consolidation point for part of the journey, so updates come from the office rather than the road. Neither is a problem if you expect it.
Six to eight weeks for a dedicated vehicle on a named day, and longer between June and September. A shared load can often be arranged in two to three weeks because you are giving up the fixed date in exchange. Allow a further week of slack behind the customs entry.
A shipment of five to fifteen cubic metres covers most postdoctoral moves, and a shared load suits it if your dates can flex by a few days. Two things worth arranging upfront: temporary holding in case housing is not ready on your start date, and a provisional plan for the return leg, since fixed-term posts end on a known date and April to September is the busy departure window.
It depends what you are shipping. Klosterneuburg is eighteen kilometres out with an S-Bahn link, property is larger for the money, and the housing stock is mostly twentieth century, so you avoid the narrow Altbau stairwells and Halteverbot permits that add cost and time to inner Vienna deliveries. If you are moving a full household rather than a flat, that difference is worth real money.
