Lakeside properties around the Woerthersee and the Thumersbach shore often sit on narrow approach roads with turning space for a car and not a lorry. Some are easier to reach on foot from a parking point, which means a longer carry and a larger crew.
Serving international removals, relocation and shipping to Carinthia from anywhere in the UK. Klagenfurt is about 1,550 km from London, the longest Austrian run of all. A dedicated vehicle takes three to four days, a shared load six to ten. Most moves land between £950 and £5,780. Consolidating with a Villach or Graz drop is what keeps the price sensible. We match you with one vetted moving company for your route, free.
Klagenfurt removals split between two quite different jobs. One is a permanent relocation to the Carinthian capital, a city of about 103,000 at the eastern end of the Woerthersee. The other is furnishing a lake house, which is a smaller shipment with far fussier access.
The Woerthersee is the warmest large lake in Austria and the reason Carinthia has a holiday-home market that the rest of the country does not. Villages along the northern shore, Poertschach and Velden among them, carry a lot of second properties. Those moves tend to be part loads rather than full households, often arriving in spring before the season and going out again years later when the house is sold.
The city itself runs on administration, the Alpen-Adria-Universitaet and the wider Carinthian technology sector, with Infineon's Villach site drawing engineers to the whole region. Carinthia also sits closer to Ljubljana and Venice than to Vienna, and the southern climate is a genuine reason people choose it.
Klagenfurt is the furthest Austrian city from a UK depot at roughly 1,550 km, reached through Germany and over the Tauern route or round through Graz. That distance is the single biggest factor in the price, and it is why shared loads matter more here than anywhere else in Austria.
Vehicles running Carinthia usually take in Villach on the same trip, and sometimes Graz as well. If your dates can flex by a week, you will almost certainly land on one of those consolidated runs and pay considerably less than a lone vehicle would cost.
Two service types cover almost every move on this route. A shared load puts your goods on a vehicle with other customers' belongings, and you pay only for the space you use. A dedicated vehicle carries your household alone and runs to your date. The right choice is usually decided by how firm your dates are, not by how much you are shipping.
Klagenfurt movers, Klagenfurt removals and a removal to Klagenfurt describe one job: a European removal by road, priced on volume and distance. On the longest run in Austria the removal company worth having is the one that consolidates rather than the one that quotes a lone vehicle, because a half-empty lorry to Carinthia is expensive for everybody.
Most household moves here land between £950 and £5,780. These are planning ranges, not quotes. Competitor route pricing for Carinthia puts Coventry to Villach, the neighbouring city, at about £1,029 for 5 cubic metres and £3,439 for 30, with Glasgow to Villach at £1,099 and £3,799. Klagenfurt sits a little above both on the same volumes.
| Move size | Roughly | Planning range |
|---|---|---|
| Boxes and a few items | 1 to 3 m³ | £800 to £1,120 |
| Studio or one bedroom | about 5 m³ | £950 to £1,450 |
| One to two bedroom | about 10 m³ | £1,400 to £2,130 |
| Two bedroom part load | about 15 m³ | £2,130 to £3,220 |
| Three bedroom dedicated | about 30 m³ | £3,650 to £5,780 |
Scottish and Northern Irish collections add roughly 10 per cent, because of the extra distance to the Channel crossing. Stairs, lifts, parking, packing and temporary holding all move the final figure.
Send your collection postcode, the delivery address, your date and a rough inventory. One vetted moving company checks the route and comes back with a real figure. Free, and no obligation to book.
Duty relief is the norm rather than the exception on a household move to Klagenfurt, provided the conditions are met. See the Austria customs checklist before you book storage.
The Klagenfurt old town around Neuer Platz and Alter Platz is Renaissance rather than medieval, so the streets are a little more generous than Salzburg's, but access is still restricted and larger vehicles cannot reach many addresses directly.
Lakeside properties are the harder job. Many sit down private approach roads with turning space for a car and not a lorry, and some are only comfortably reached from the water side. If your delivery address is on the Woerthersee shore, send a photograph of the approach with your enquiry. It saves a wasted journey.
Timing matters too. The lake villages fill from June to September, parking disappears and the roads around the northern shore slow to a crawl. A shoulder-season delivery in May or late September is easier and usually cheaper than one in August.
Almost never. Hiring a removal van and driving there yourself looks cheap until you add fuel, the Channel crossing, German and Austrian tolls, the motorway Vignette, overnight stops and one way hire fees. You also carry the customs declaration alone. A shared load with a professional removal company is usually cheaper and far simpler.
As a planning guide, a 5 cubic metre shared load to Klagenfurt runs about 950 to 1,450 pounds, a 15 cubic metre part load about 2,130 to 3,220 pounds, and a 30 cubic metre dedicated vehicle about 3,650 to 5,780 pounds. Ranges are compiled from published 2026 competitor route rates. Collections in Scotland and Northern Ireland typically add around 10 per cent.
In the newer districts usually, in the older core often not. Where a large vehicle cannot get close, goods transfer to a smaller van for the final stage. Send your floor number, whether there is a lift, and a photograph of the street with your enquiry and the stage can be priced properly.
Books, clothes and linen are worth doing yourself. Leave the kitchen, glassware, pictures and anything fragile to the crew, because most movers will not cover owner packed cartons for breakage. If a box matters, let them pack that one.
Never on the lorry. Pets travel separately and need an Animal Health Certificate from an official vet, valid for ten days from issue, with tapeworm treatment for dogs. Mention it at enquiry stage so the timings are coordinated rather than clashing.
Yes, and it is a common size: two to five cubic metres suits a shared load where you pay only for the space used. Check whether your accommodation restricts delivery windows, because purpose built student buildings usually do, and book the slot before the vehicle.
In most Austrian town and city centres, yes. A Halteverbot reserves street space outside the building and is applied for through the district office, taking days rather than hours. Your mover normally arranges it, but only with the address in good time.
Typically owner packed cartons for breakage, cash, jewellery and documents, and anything not listed on the inventory. Keep valuables and papers with you rather than in the shipment, and declare high value items at quote stage so they are surveyed properly.
Quite different. A holiday-home shipment is usually a part load rather than a full household, and duty relief may not apply if you are not transferring your main residence to Austria. Access is the other issue: lakeside approach roads are often too tight for a full-size lorry. Send a photograph of the approach with your enquiry.
Distance and consolidation. Klagenfurt is roughly 100 km further from a UK depot than Vienna and sits off the main east-west motorway, so fewer vehicles run there. Flexible dates that let you join a Villach or Graz consolidated run are the most effective way to bring the figure down.
