Bringing a car there is the part of an international move most likely to go wrong, because it is two problems rather than one. Getting the vehicle there is straightforward. Getting it registered and legal is not, and the rules are stricter than most people expect.
The first thing to know is that a vehicle is never part of the household shipment. It travels separately, on a transporter or driven, and it is declared separately. Movers who quote a household job and add "plus the car" without explaining that are storing up trouble.
The second is that ownership history matters. Austria expects you to have owned and used the vehicle for at least six months before the move for relief to apply. Buying a car shortly before you go is a common and expensive mistake.

An open transporter is cheaper and fine for an ordinary car. Driving it yourself is the cheapest option on paper and rarely once you count fuel, tolls, the Vignette, overnight stops and a flight home if you are not staying.
If you do drive, note that the country requires winter tyres on cars in wintry conditions from 1 November to 15 April, and the motorway Vignette is compulsory. A hire car crossing the border without one is an on-the-spot fine.
