Quick answer: Aalborg is the furthest major Danish city from the UK by road, at the top of the E45, but it needs no toll bridge crossing. The Limfjord splits the city in two. One FIDI-certified mover matched free. 07551 855 064.

We handle relocation and shipping to Aalborg and across the North Jutland (Nordjylland), for households and businesses alike. We are not a removal company. We match your enquiry with one vetted mover from the AGM Group network, so you are not chased by five firms after one enquiry.
🚚 Getting your goods to Aalborg

Shipping your goods to Aalborg

Aalborg is the longest road haul of any major Danish city from the UK, and also one of the simplest.

A lorry crosses the Channel, drives through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, enters Denmark at the border and stays on the E45 all the way to the top of the peninsula. No Little Belt bridge, no Great Belt bridge, no ferry, no toll. The distance is greater than a Copenhagen delivery but the route has fewer moving parts, and there is no crossing charge in the quote.

The catch is time rather than complexity. Aalborg is the last stop on the E45, so allow more transit than for Kolding or Aarhus. If your dates are tight, say so early.

The DFDS Immingham to Esbjerg freight ferry is the alternative, six sailings a week at around 18 and a half hours, landing on the west coast with a drive north up Jutland from there.

For sea freight, the Port of Aalborg sits on the Limfjord with 25 berths and handles the region's commercial traffic.

Moving from Spain rather than the UK? That is an intra-EU move with no customs process, and we cover it on removals from Spain to Denmark.

Worth reading first: sea freight.

FIDI FAIM is the international quality standard for removal companies. To be accredited, a removal company must pass an independent audit by Ernst and Young covering more than 200 quality and operational criteria, repeated every three years.

International Removals Companies connects each enquiry with one FIDI-certified partner mover who works Danish routes. It does not carry out the move itself. DATACONTEXT (UK) LTD, company 07425576, has operated the service since November 2010. The enquiry is free.

🏠 Access in Aalborg

What to expect at the Aalborg end

The thing to understand about Aalborg is that a waterway runs through the middle of it.

The Limfjord separates Aalborg proper on the south bank from Norresundby on the north. They are connected by a road bridge and a motorway tunnel, so a delivery lorry crosses without difficulty, but it does mean your address might be a few minutes and one crossing away from where you assumed. Check which side of the fjord you are on when you give the mover the address.

The city centre has some older streets near the waterfront and around Jomfru Ane Gade with restricted access, but the scale of the problem is much smaller than central Copenhagen. Most of Aalborg is suburban housing and newer apartment blocks with lifts and parking.

Aalborg University is in the city and its intake shapes the late summer calendar, with student and shared housing busier from late August. Worth avoiding if your date is flexible.

Loading and parking rules are set by Aalborg Municipality. Ask the mover to check your street before the day.

💷 Aalborg removal costs

How much do shipping and removals to Aalborg cost?

Nobody can price your move honestly without knowing what you are shifting and where from. Here is what the partner mover will be asking about.

Volume

A one bedroom flat and a four bedroom house are not in the same bracket. Everything else adjusts around this.

Shared or sole use

Sharing container space costs less and takes longer, because your goods wait for other consignments.

Route into Aalborg

No toll crossing at all, but the longest road haul of any major Danish city.

Access and packing

Lifts, street width and parking all add hours. Full packing costs more up front and usually saves grief later.

Quotes come in pounds, but you will be spending Danish kroner when you land, since Denmark kept the krone and did not join the euro. Currency exchange is included in what we offer through our partners, with no hidden fees, competitive rates and five star consumer ratings.

📄 Danish customs

Danish customs for goods arriving in Aalborg

Since Brexit the UK sits outside the EU, so goods from Britain need Danish customs clearance. The authority is Toldstyrelsen, the Danish Customs Agency, and it is Toldstyrelsen you deal with for goods rather than SKAT, which handles tax. The rules are national, so they apply the same in Aalborg as anywhere else in Denmark.

Relief conditions: all must be met
  • Lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months
  • Goods used for the same purpose after the move
  • Goods arrive no later than 12 months after you move
  • Goods arrive no earlier than six months before, otherwise you lodge security for the duty and VAT
  • No lending, pledging, hiring out or selling for 12 months after import
Paperwork and exclusions

Two documents. Your mover files the customs clearance declaration. You separately complete a declaration of personal property, form 12.024, and send it to Toldstyrelsen yourself.

Keep receipts. You may be asked to show six months of ownership on valuable items.

Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and trade equipment are excluded, though portable tools are fine. If you do not qualify, Danish moms is 25%.

Cars are separate: vehicles come under Motorstyrelsen with its own rules and a registration fee. Rules change, so check toldst.dk before you ship. Last reviewed July 2026.

🏆 Choosing a removal company

Accreditation: what to check before you book

Anyone can call themselves an international mover, and plenty of moving companies quoting Denmark routes hold no accreditation at all. Accreditation is how you tell who has actually been checked, and it is worth looking at before price.

FIDI FAIM Certified

Audited independently by Ernst and Young against more than 200 quality and operational criteria, from how a firm handles client money to how it trains its crews. The audit repeats every three years.

Every mover we match you with holds it.

The other memberships to look for
  • BAR Overseas, the British Association of Removers overseas group
  • IAM, the International Association of Movers
  • EUROMOVERS, the European mover network
  • FEDEMAC, the European federation of movers associations

These tell you a company works to agreed standards and that you have somewhere to take a complaint.

Our network partners come from the AGM Group network, whose website is agm.group. Every one of these moving companies has been checked before joining the network.

Aalborg removal questions

Common questions about moving to Aalborg

How do removals get to Aalborg from the UK?

Straight up the E45 to the top of the Jutland peninsula. A lorry crosses the Channel, drives through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, enters Denmark at the border and stays on the E45 with no bridge crossing and no toll. It is the longest road haul of any major Danish city but the simplest route. The DFDS Immingham to Esbjerg freight ferry is the alternative, six sailings a week at around 18 and a half hours, then north up Jutland.

What access problems should I expect?

The main thing is the Limfjord, which separates Aalborg proper on the south bank from Norresundby on the north. A road bridge and a motorway tunnel connect them, so a lorry crosses without difficulty, but check which side of the fjord your address is on when you brief the mover. The city centre has some older streets near the waterfront with restricted access, but on a far smaller scale than central Copenhagen. Most of Aalborg is suburban with lifts and parking.

Do I pay Danish VAT on my belongings?

Not if you meet Toldstyrelsen's conditions for transferring your residence. You need 12 consecutive months living outside the EU, the goods arriving within 12 months of your move and no earlier than six months before it, and no lending or selling them for a year afterwards. If you do not qualify, Danish moms is 25%.

What paperwork do I need?

Two documents, not one. Your mover files the customs clearance declaration. You separately complete a declaration of personal property, form 12.024, and send it to Toldstyrelsen yourself. Keep receipts, because you may be asked to prove six months of ownership on valuable items.

Can I take my car?

Yes, but it is handled separately from your household goods. Vehicles come under Motorstyrelsen with its own rules and a registration fee. Ask the partner mover to quote for it as a separate item.

Do you move people out of Aalborg as well?

Yes. Coming back to Britain you will be dealing with HMRC and Transfer of Residence relief rather than Toldstyrelsen. See leaving Denmark for Britain.
