Quick answer: Sending a few boxes to Denmark is priced per box, not per lorry. It suits students, single movers and anyone shipping less than a room. One vetted mover matched free. 07551 855 064.

🚚 Sending Boxes to Denmark

Sending Boxes to Denmark from the UK

Not every move needs a lorry. If you are shipping ten boxes rather than a houseful of furniture, a full removal quote is the wrong tool and it will look expensive because it is.

Box shipping is a different service. You pack cartons, they get collected, and you pay for what you send rather than for a vehicle. It suits students heading to Aarhus or Copenhagen, people taking a job for a year, anyone furnishing a flat that already has the big items, and families sending the overflow ahead of a main move.

Tell us roughly how many boxes and where they are going, and we will match you with one vetted mover who handles small consignments to Denmark. It is free and there is no obligation.

FIDI FAIM is the international quality standard for removal companies. Nothing in law stops a firm calling itself an international mover, which is why moving companies need checking rather than trusting.

International Removals Companies connects each enquiry with one FIDI-certified partner mover. We are a matching service, not a moving company, and we do not handle the move itself. DATACONTEXT (UK) LTD, company 07425576, has operated the service since November 2010. The enquiry is free.

📦 What is included

What box shipping to Denmark actually covers

The service is simpler than a household removal, which is the point.

What travels well. Books, clothes, kitchen equipment, bedding, files, tools, sports kit, anything that packs into a standard carton and is not fragile beyond reasonable packing.

What does not. Furniture is the dividing line. A wardrobe, a sofa or a bed is not a box, and once furniture is involved you want a part load instead. Ask for both quotes if you are unsure which side of the line you fall on.

How it is priced. Per box, usually with a minimum. That means the cost scales with what you send, so ten boxes cost roughly half what twenty do. A removal lorry does not work that way, which is why box shipping is cheaper for small volumes and worse value once you pass a certain point.

Where the crossover sits. Somewhere around a small van load. Past that, a part load usually wins. The mover will tell you honestly which is cheaper for your list, and it is worth asking rather than assuming.

🛣 How it works

Getting boxes to Denmark: how they travel

Boxes go by road or by consolidated sea freight, and the choice mostly comes down to how quickly you need them.

By road. Boxes travel as part of a consolidated load through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. For Jutland destinations like Aarhus, Aalborg and Esbjerg the lorry runs straight up the E45 with no crossing. For Copenhagen and the rest of Zealand there is the Great Belt bridge, which is why a Copenhagen delivery sometimes costs a little more than a Jutland one.

By sea. The DFDS Immingham to Esbjerg freight ferry runs six times a week at around 18 and a half hours, and it is well suited to consolidated cargo. There is no passenger ferry between Britain and Denmark, so if you are travelling separately you will be flying or driving via the Channel regardless.

Consolidated services wait for other consignments going the same way, which is what keeps the price down. If you need boxes on a fixed date, say so, because that changes the service and the price.

🏠 Practical detail

Packing boxes for Denmark

Because you are paying per box, packing well is directly worth money.

Ask the mover whether they supply cartons. Many do, and buying the right size is usually cheaper than paying to ship air in the wrong one.

📄 Customs

Customs when you send boxes to Denmark

Since Brexit the UK sits outside the EU, so boxes from Britain need Danish customs clearance the same as a full household move. The authority is Toldstyrelsen, the Danish Customs Agency.

If you are moving your normal residence to Denmark, the same relief conditions apply: at least 12 consecutive months living outside the EU, goods arriving no later than 12 months after you move and no earlier than six months before, and no lending or selling them for 12 months after import. Two documents are needed, one filed by the carrier and a declaration of personal property, form 12.024, that you submit yourself.

The situation that catches people out. If you are not transferring your residence, and are simply sending boxes to someone in Denmark or to a property you already have, the relief does not apply. Duty and Danish VAT at 25% may be payable on the declared value. Be honest about the value and the reason for the shipment. Understating it to avoid charges is where problems start.

Alcohol and tobacco are excluded from the relief entirely. Do not put them in.

Rules change. Check toldst.dk before you ship. Last reviewed July 2026.

Where in Denmark are you moving to?

Most box shipments go to the university cities, where students and short-term staff make up a lot of the demand. Local detail on access and timing:

Questions

Common questions

How much does it cost to send boxes to Denmark?

It is priced per box rather than per vehicle, usually with a minimum consignment. That means the cost scales with what you send. Ten boxes cost roughly half what twenty do. Beyond a small van load a part load service usually becomes cheaper, and the mover will tell you which suits your list. Volume, destination and whether you need a fixed date all affect the figure.

How long does it take?

Consolidated services wait for other consignments heading the same way, which is what keeps the price low, so allow longer than a dedicated vehicle. Jutland destinations are reached without a bridge crossing. Copenhagen and Zealand need the Great Belt bridge. If you need boxes by a specific date, say so at enquiry stage, because that changes the service.

What is the difference between box shipping and a part load?

Furniture. Box shipping is cartons only and is priced per box. A part load is shared container or vehicle space that takes furniture as well, priced on volume. If your list is all boxes, box shipping is cheaper. Once a wardrobe or a sofa is involved, ask for a part load quote instead.

Can I send boxes to a friend in Denmark rather than moving there myself?

Yes, but the customs position changes. Transfer of residence relief only applies if you are moving your normal home to Denmark. Sending boxes to someone else means duty and Danish VAT at 25 percent may be payable on the declared value. Declare it honestly.

What can I not put in the boxes?

Alcohol and tobacco are excluded from customs relief entirely. Aerosols, liquids that can leak and anything prohibited for carriage should also stay out. Check the carrier's list before you pack rather than after.

Do you supply the boxes?

Many of our partner movers do. It is worth asking, because buying the correct size is usually cheaper than paying to ship a half-empty carton. Books should go in small boxes, since a large box of books cannot be lifted safely.
