Quick answer: A part load is shared vehicle or container space that takes furniture as well as boxes. Cheaper than a dedicated vehicle, slower, and priced on volume. One vetted mover matched free. 07551 855 064.
Most moves are not a full household and are not a few boxes. They sit in between: a flat's worth of things, or a bedroom and a kitchen, or everything except the furniture you decided to sell.
A part load is built for exactly that. Your goods share vehicle or container space with other consignments travelling the same route, and you pay for the space you use rather than for a whole vehicle.

FIDI FAIM is the international quality standard for removal companies. A removal company earns it by passing an independent Ernst and Young audit of more than 200 criteria, re-tested every three years.
International Removals Companies connects each enquiry with one FIDI-certified partner mover. We do not own lorries. We match your enquiry to a firm that does. DATACONTEXT (UK) LTD, company 07425576, has operated the service since November 2010. The enquiry is free.

These two get confused constantly, and picking the wrong one costs money.
Furniture is the dividing line. If your list is cartons only, box shipping is cheaper and it is priced per box. The moment a wardrobe, a sofa, a bed or a table is involved, you want a part load, because box services are not built to carry them and will either refuse or charge badly for the privilege.
The pricing model differs. Box shipping charges per carton. A part load is priced on volume, in cubic metres or cubic feet, which is why a survey or an accurate list matters more here.
The crossover point. Somewhere around a small van load. Below it, boxes usually win. Above it, a part load does. Ask for both quotes if you are genuinely unsure, because the answer depends on what your items actually measure rather than how many there are.
And at the top end, once you are moving most of a house, compare a part load against a dedicated vehicle. Sharing stops being cheaper when you are filling most of the space anyway.
Part loads are cheaper for one structural reason: the vehicle is not waiting for you alone. Understanding that explains everything else about how they work.
The delivery window is wider. The load leaves when there is enough cargo going the same way to justify the run. That means a window rather than a date, typically expressed as a range. If you need a specific day, a part load is the wrong product and a dedicated vehicle is right.
Your goods are handled more. Shared loads are consolidated, sometimes transhipped, and loaded around other consignments. Good packing matters more than it does on a dedicated move where the load is not disturbed.
Inventory discipline matters. With several consignments on one vehicle, a clear numbered inventory is what keeps yours together and identifiable. A good mover will insist on it.
Access still applies. Sharing the vehicle does not change what happens at your door. If you are on the fourth floor of a Copenhagen block with no lift, the hoist is still needed and still costs.
Send the collection postcode, the full Danish delivery address, an inventory, the property type and access details, your preferred date and any special items. One FIDI-certified partner mover confirms the quote.

Part loads run by road and by sea, and the route depends on where in Denmark you are going.
By road. Consolidated vehicles run through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. For Jutland the E45 takes them straight up with no crossing. For Copenhagen and Zealand there is the Great Belt bridge, and for Funen the Little Belt. Because part loads are built around efficient routing, a destination on the main corridor sometimes prices better than one off it.
By sea. Shared container space, or a trailer on the DFDS Immingham to Esbjerg freight ferry, which runs six times a week at around 18 and a half hours.
One thing worth asking that people rarely do: whether the mover has other work in your area in your window. If they are already running a vehicle to Aarhus that week, adding your consignment costs them very little and that can show in the price.
Danish customs applies the same either way. Since Brexit, goods from Britain need clearance through Toldstyrelsen, with the carrier filing the clearance declaration and you completing a declaration of personal property, form 12.024, separately.
A few things make a genuine difference on a shared move.
Pack properly, or have it packed. Your goods will be handled more than on a dedicated move and stacked against other people's. Weak boxes fail under that. This is the service where full packing most often earns its cost.
Number everything and keep a copy. A numbered inventory is your protection on a consolidated load. Photograph anything valuable before it is wrapped.
Dismantle what you can. Volume is what you are paying for. A bed frame taken apart occupies a fraction of the space it does assembled, and the saving is real.
Be honest about the list. The single biggest cause of a price changing is volume that was not declared. The garage, the loft, the bike. Include everything at the quoting stage even if you are not sure you will take it.
Ask about storage at both ends. Wider delivery windows and fixed handover dates do not always align. Knowing the storage option in advance is better than needing it suddenly.
Part loads route efficiently, so a destination on the main corridor often prices better. Local detail:

It depends on how much space you use, because you pay for volume rather than for the vehicle. The saving is substantial for a flat's worth of goods and shrinks as you approach a full household. Once you are filling most of the space anyway, compare the two directly, because sharing stops being cheaper.
Longer than a dedicated vehicle, and you get a window rather than a date. The load leaves when there is enough cargo going the same way to justify the run. If you need a specific day, a part load is the wrong product.
Not with a competent mover, and a numbered inventory is what prevents it. Shared loads are consolidated and loaded around other consignments, so a clear itemised list is your protection. A good firm will insist on one rather than treating it as optional.
This is the service where it most often earns its cost. Your goods are handled more than on a dedicated move and stacked against other consignments, and weak boxes fail under that. Dismantling furniture also helps, because volume is what you are paying for.
Yes, entirely. Sharing changes what happens on the road, not what happens at your door. A fourth floor Copenhagen flat with no lift still needs an external hoist, and a protected quarter still needs a relay vehicle. Those costs apply the same way.
