1. Volume. The big one, measured in cubic metres or cubic feet. Everything else adjusts around it. A survey, at home or by video, is how this gets measured accurately. A room count is not a volume.
2. Dedicated vehicle or shared space. A dedicated vehicle carries your household alone, leaves when you want and arrives sooner. Shared container or vehicle space costs less and waits for other consignments heading the same way. If you have a fixed completion or start date, dedicated is usually the only realistic option, and that certainty is what you are paying for.
3. Which side of the Great Belt. Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Roskilde and the rest of Zealand sit beyond a toll bridge. Aarhus, Aalborg, Esbjerg, Kolding and the rest of Jutland do not. Odense and Funen need only the shorter Little Belt crossing. Three tiers, and the quote reflects which one you are in.
4. Access at both ends. The most underestimated factor by a distance. No lift in a Copenhagen block means an external hoist. A protected quarter means a relay vehicle. A gravel drive in Gentofte or Birkerod means parking on the road and shuttling. Deck access in Farum means a long carry. Every one of those adds crew hours, and crew hours are most of the cost.
5. Packing. Full packing means the crew does everything and adds days at the collection end as well as cost. Part packing usually covers fragile items only. For a long international move, full packing frequently pays for itself in what does not get broken.
6. Timing. Summer is busier than winter. Late August is worse in the university cities. A fixed date costs more than a flexible window, because flexibility is what lets a mover fill a vehicle.
You can judge a mover by the questions. A firm that quotes without asking these is guessing, and the number will change later.
If a quote arrives without a survey and without most of these being asked, treat it as an indication rather than a price.

Most unpleasant surprises come from the same handful of places.
Access discovered on the day. A crew that arrives to find no lift, a barrier they cannot pass, or a drive they cannot enter has to solve it there and then, usually with extra people or a second vehicle. That gets charged. It is avoidable entirely by describing the access honestly at the survey.
Volume creep. The loft, the garage, the shed. Things that were not in the survey because nobody opened the door. Show the mover everything, including what you think you might not take.
Permits. Denmark has 98 municipalities and holding road space is a local matter. Frederiksberg, Gentofte, Tarnby, Hvidovre and the rest each set their own rules separately from Copenhagen. A permit arranged with the wrong council is no permit at all.
Storage you did not plan. If the Danish property is not available on the arrival date, the goods have to go somewhere. Ask what storage costs before you need it.
Insurance gaps. Per-item limits, not the headline figure. A piano or a painting will exceed a standard cap and needs declaring separately.
Quotes come in pounds. Life in Denmark happens in kroner, because Denmark kept the krone and did not join the euro.
That matters more than people expect. If you are paying a Danish deposit, a Danish agent or a Danish landlord around the same time as the move, the exchange rate on those transfers can move a meaningful sum, and high street bank rates are rarely the best available.
