Lampang is a working northern town about ninety minutes south of Chiang Mai. It is known for horse carts, old teak houses and a slower pace, and it costs noticeably less than Chiang Mai to live in.
Shipments land at Laem Chabang and clear Thai customs there. The road leg is roughly 700 kilometres, about nine and a half hours. Lampang sits on the main northern rail line, which occasionally makes rail an option for the domestic leg where the road schedule is tight.
