Trat is the last province on the eastern seaboard before Cambodia, and it is where the road ends for anyone heading to Koh Chang. The mainland town is quiet and working; the island offshore is where most foreign residents actually live.
Shipments land at Laem Chabang and clear Thai customs there. The road leg is roughly 300 kilometres, about four and a half hours. Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand and takes most of the province's foreign residents, so say at the enquiry stage whether your address is on the mainland or over the water.

The mainland town has a small foreign population, mostly people married locally or running small businesses. The larger community is on Koh Chang, where resort and dive operators, restaurant owners and a growing number of retirees have settled. Island shipments tend to be smaller because getting a full container across is awkward.
The Andaman and Gulf seasons meet here. Ferries to Koh Chang run year round but the crossing is rougher from June to October, and the island's east coast roads wash in heavy rain. November to March is the straightforward window, and it is also when the ferry is busiest.
