Most Swiss leases end on the same few dates. Book around that or pay for it.
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the one most people move to for work. The thing that catches new arrivals out is not the distance or the customs step. It is the calendar, because Swiss tenancies tend to end on the same handful of dates and everybody moves at once.
Swiss residential leases commonly run to fixed termination dates rather than ending whenever a tenant chooses, and those dates fall at the ends of quarters. The effect is that a large share of the city changes address within the same few days, several times a year.
For a household arriving from abroad that matters in one practical way: removal capacity is scarce on those dates and easier either side of them. If your Swiss lease starts on one of them and your old one ends on the other, you have chosen the two busiest days in the calendar without meaning to.
It is often worth a few days of storage to move on a quieter date instead. Ask the mover what the difference looks like before you commit to a start date you may still be able to shift.
Zurich also appears as Zürich and Zurigo. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.
Zurich has the largest concentration of international employment in Switzerland, across banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals and technology, and a good share of arrivals are relocating for a job with a policy behind them.
That produces two distinct kinds of move. Employer funded arrivals usually work to a fixed start date, which removes the flexibility that makes a shared lorry cheaper and pushes towards a vehicle of your own. Private moves and later stage arrivals have more room to choose.
Return moves out of the city are equally common, because a good proportion of those postings are fixed term. The road runs the same way in reverse but the paperwork is a separate exercise.

The commonest reason a Zurich delivery runs long is a lift that will not take the furniture. A great deal of the inner city housing stock predates the expectation that people own three seater sofas, and the lift was sized for two people and a shopping bag.
Send the internal dimensions of the lift car and, more importantly, the width of the door opening, because the opening is usually the narrower of the two and it is what stops long items going in diagonally. Add the narrowest point on the stairs, which is almost always a turn rather than a straight flight.
If the answer is that nothing large is going up, the alternative is an external hoist working from the street to a window or balcony. That is completely normal here and neighbours will not blink, but it needs booking and usually a permit for the parking space, so it cannot be decided on the morning.
Zurich is divided into numbered districts, and giving one to a mover says more than the street name alone. The inner districts are dense, older and constrained, with narrow streets, resident parking and the tightest lifts in the city. The outer ones are largely post war, with wider approaches and lifts that will usually take a wardrobe.
The old town on both banks of the Limmat is the extreme case: partly pedestrian, restricted to vehicles, and full of buildings whose stairwells turn sharply between floors. Deliveries there are worked out address by address.
Along the lake in either direction the housing is generally newer and better provided for, but building management is more active and lift bookings are more likely to be required.

It changes what suits. A fixed start date set by an employer removes the flexibility that makes sharing a lorry cheaper, so a dedicated vehicle is usually the honest answer. Read the relocation policy first, because it will cap the volume and will often exclude vehicles, pets and high value items.
