Zug has the lightest corporate tax burden in Switzerland and a concentration of commodity trading and finance firms that follows from it. That single fact shapes almost every removal into the canton, starting with who is paying.
Elsewhere in Switzerland a household move is a private arrangement. In Zug a large share of arrivals are employer funded, which changes the whole shape of the job. There is a policy document, an authorised volume, a named contact in human resources and often a fixed start date that everything else has to fit around.
That is worth knowing before you brief anybody. Read the policy wording first. It will say moving company, household goods shipment and relocation allowance rather than removals, and what it authorises is usually more specific than what people remember being told in the interview.
The practical consequences are a shorter lead time than average and less flexibility on dates, which pushes most Zug moves towards a dedicated vehicle rather than a shared one.
Zug also appears as Zoug and Zugo. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.
Policies vary, but the recurring gaps are worth checking before you assume. Volume is often capped, either in cubic metres or by property size. Storage at either end may be limited to a number of weeks. Vehicles, pets and anything classed as high value are frequently excluded and handled separately.
Ask the mover to quote the authorised scope and anything beyond it as separate lines. That way you can see what you would be paying for personally before you commit, rather than after the invoice.
Corporate moves run to a start date somebody else set. That removes most of the flexibility that makes a shared lorry cheaper, because a shared load is priced on the assumption you can wait for the vehicle to fill.
So the honest position for most Zug arrivals is a dedicated vehicle. It costs more and it arrives when you need it, and against a hotel bill and a delayed start it is frequently the cheaper answer overall.
Where a shared load does work here is the return leg at the end of a posting, when the date is yours again rather than the employer's.
Zug is not an old town problem. It is a building management problem. Much of the housing arrivals move into is recent, well run and governed by rules that are enforced rather than suggested.
In practice that usually means the service lift has to be booked for a slot, protective covering has to go down in the lobby and lift car, and there may be limits on which hours a move can happen. None of that is difficult. All of it needs arranging days ahead rather than on the morning.
Get the building manager contact to the mover early. It is the single most useful thing you can do for a Zug delivery, and it is the step most often left until the week of the move.

Zug is the German name and the one you will see on everything official, since the canton is German speaking. Zoug is French and Zugo is Italian. They refer to the same city and the same canton, which shares the name.
