Beadnell is full of houses that have been let to holidaymakers, and international removals companies here see the same thing every summer: and a buyer taking one on frequently wants the beds, the sofas and the crockery to stay exactly where they are. That changes the whole shape of an overseas removal, and almost nothing written about moving abroad allows for it.
Our role here is narrow. We match enquiries and hold no vehicles. Overseas removals go out to accredited international removal companies in the AGM Group network, and one overseas moving company suited to your destination prices the job.
For a removal company, selling furnished is not the same as leaving things behind. Money changes hands for the contents, a list is attached to the sale, and what remains for movers and packers to load becomes small, personal and easy to underestimate.
The village itself is straightforward for most of the year. In July and August the coast road and the lanes towards the harbour fill with visitors, and a collection is easier before ten in the morning than after.
Anything on none of the three causes an argument on completion day.
Conveyancing uses a standard form for this and most people fill it in vaguely, long before any moving companies are asked to quote. On an international move that vagueness is expensive, because the surveyor is pricing a volume that depends entirely on which side of the line each item falls.
Beds, sofas, wardrobes, dining furniture and white goods, each marked included or excluded before a removal quote is asked for. These are the volume.
Bedding, towels, crockery and kitchen equipment fill more cartons than people expect and holiday lets are full of them.
Garden furniture, a shed and its contents, and anything in an outhouse. Buyers assume these stay and sellers assume they go.

Once the beds and sofas are the buyer's, an overseas removal carries clothes, books, pictures, personal papers, kitchen things you actually like and whatever was never part of the letting. International movers rarely find more than a few cubic metres of it.
At that size international movers put you in a shared container almost every time. You buy space by volume, the figure drops a long way from a full household, and a removal company will price it as a part load without blinking.
Two things resist that logic and both are worth naming early. Anything valuable or irreplaceable still wants its own line on the inventory. And anything you were told is included that you have changed your mind about needs raising with the buyer, not quietly loaded on the day.

One says what stays and the other tells the moving company what goes, and between them they should account for every item in the property. Where they contradict each other, somebody finds out on completion day, which is the worst possible moment.

There is a temptation, once the load is small, to treat it as a minor job and take the cheapest figure. Resist it. A few cubic metres crossing an ocean needs the same export packing, the same documents and the same accreditation as a full container, and movers and packers who cut corners on a small load cut them on a large one too.
