Most counties give you a problem of geography. Which port, which road, how long to the coast. Northumberland gives you a problem of supply. Fewer people live here per square mile than anywhere else in England, and international moving companies go where the work is.
Our part is narrow and worth stating plainly. This is a matching service with no vehicles behind it. An enquiry about overseas removals goes to accredited international removals companies in the AGM Group network, and whichever one covers your route replies with a single price.
Ask around a village in the Cheviots and you may turn up two international movers. Ask in Cramlington and you will turn up a dozen. That gap is the real Northumberland story, and almost every piece of advice written about moving from here ignores it completely.
The useful correction is simple. Stop thinking about which movers are near you and start thinking about which cities are near you. Newcastle, Carlisle and Edinburgh all send international movers into this county, and for a good part of it the Scottish one is closest.
Northumberland is around 130 miles top to bottom. A crew that can reach Prudhoe before nine in the morning cannot reach Berwick at the same hour, and the firms know it. Where you sit decides who bothers to quote.
Cramlington, Blyth, Ashington, Bedlington, Ponteland. Minutes from Newcastle, so overseas movers here are plentiful and the prices are the county's lowest.
Prudhoe, Hexham, Henshaw, Whitfield. The A69 runs to both Newcastle and Carlisle, which puts two cities of removal companies within reach.
Morpeth, Cresswell, Alnwick. Still Newcastle territory, though a long enough morning that an early start matters more than it does further south.
Berwick, Milfield, Fenton, Beadnell. Edinburgh is closer than Newcastle for much of this, and Scottish firms quote for it routinely.
People hesitate over this and there is nothing to hesitate about. Your goods are leaving the United Kingdom either way, so the export entry, the accreditations and the shipping documents are identical whether the overseas moving company is based in Edinburgh or in Gateshead.
What changes is the road. From Berwick, an Edinburgh crew is under an hour away and a Newcastle crew is comfortably over one. On an early start in winter, that difference is real.
The one thing to settle is which port the container will use. A Scottish firm may route through Grangemouth or Greenock; an English one will usually head for the Tyne, Teesport or Immingham. Ask which, and ask why, because the answer tells you whether they have planned your job or reached for a default.
There is no motorway in Northumberland. The A1 is the spine and it narrows to single carriageway for long stretches north of Alnwick, while the A69 crosses the county west to east. Everything else feeds those two.
The obvious answer for most of the county, and close enough that the road leg barely registers on a quote from the south east corner.
Further south and often better served on a given route, which is why a mover may pick one over the nearer option.
In play from the north of the county, particularly where the firm loading you is based north of the border.
No port and no sailing. A dedicated vehicle or a shared road groupage runs to the Channel, which suits France, Spain and Germany.
For a small urgent consignment ahead of the sea shipment. Priced on weight, so it suits clothes and documents and nothing large.
North of Alnwick the A1 is not a fast road. Collections up there start early for that reason and it is worth expecting.
Bands from what removal companies quoted on Northumberland collections in the year to August 2026. None is an offer. They are grouped by catchment, because in this county that is what moves the number.
| Where you are | Two bedrooms | Three bedrooms | Four bedrooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| South east corner | £1,540 to £2,940 | £4,320 to £6,210 | £6,880 to £10,640 |
| Tyne valley | £1,610 to £3,080 | £4,510 to £6,460 | £7,140 to £11,020 |
| Mid county | £1,690 to £3,220 | £4,740 to £6,730 | £7,430 to £11,380 |
| The far north | £1,780 to £3,410 | £4,980 to £7,060 | £7,820 to £11,860 |
The spread top to bottom is real and it is mostly travel. Widening your shortlist northwards closes a good part of it, which is the whole argument of this page.

Market town on the A69, within reach of two cities of movers.
The county town, and a comfortable morning from Newcastle.
New town estates, straightforward loading, the county's easiest access.
Coastal town with its own working port, minutes from the Tyne.
Former colliery town, terraced streets and tight rear access.
Long market street, and parking that wants arranging in advance.
Closest in the county to Newcastle airport and its freight.
Tyne valley, on the A69 and the shortest run to the Port of Tyne.
Where the A1 starts to narrow, so collections begin early.
Nearer Edinburgh than Newcastle, so the shortlist should reflect it.
Coastal village, holiday lets and a good deal of second home traffic.
Small coastal settlement north of the Wansbeck, off the A1068.
South Tyne valley, remote lanes and a long approach for any lorry.
Beside the A69 and Hadrian's Wall, west of Hexham.
Glendale, in the far north where Scottish firms quote routinely.
Northumberland's Fenton, not the one in Stoke-on-Trent.
Yes, and from the north of the county one is often nearest. Your goods leave the United Kingdom either way, so the paperwork is identical.
Because this is England's least populated county and firms cluster where the work is. Widen the search to Edinburgh or Carlisle.
Usually the Tyne, sometimes Teesport or Immingham, and Scottish terminals from the far north. Ask which and ask why.
None at all. The A1 is the spine and the A69 crosses west to east, and everything else feeds those two roads.
North of Alnwick the A1 is single carriageway in places. A crew allows for that, and the first slot of the day is worth asking for.
In the north of the county, somewhat, and travel is most of the difference. A wider shortlist closes a good part of that gap.
The valued inventory is yours to write, room by room, with your own figure against every line. It serves the customs entry and any later claim, and no international moving company can price your possessions for you.
From that list the matched mover raises the export entry and the shipping set. Settle the visa or residence question before any of it is lodged, since amending an entry afterwards is slow and visible.
Moving into Britain instead, transfer of residence relief is claimed before the vessel berths, on the conditions GOV.UK publishes. That deadline holds whichever side of the border your mover is based on.
Every one of the international removal companies your enquiry reaches holds a recognised trade accreditation, and the schemes below audit premises, procedures and financial standing on a repeating cycle. That is a floor, not a ranking, and it is worth understanding as one.
Beyond the badge, ask each international moving company how many times a year it loads for your destination. A firm sailing your route monthly knows what its agent needs. A firm that goes twice a year is reading the same guidance you could read yourself.
The third question is the agent at the far end, by name. That firm does half the job and you will never meet it.
Deposits and rent bonds abroad usually need paying in local currency, so we include access to currency exchange through trusted partners.

Catchment descriptions reflect where partner movers actually travel from and are a general guide, not a statement about any individual firm's coverage. Port routing is decided by the mover and the sailing schedule for your destination.
Bands come from international relocation quotations the network issued between September 2025 and August 2026. Checked August 2026, due again August 2027.
Send your postcode, the destination, your date and a rough inventory. One vetted partner quotes it, and the match looks at every firm within reach of you, including north of the border.
