Two towns, one commune, and a causeway across the lake at the door.
Rapperswil-Jona is two neighbouring towns merged into a single commune, sitting where Lake Zurich narrows almost to a crossing. A causeway carries the road over that gap, which shapes how anything arrives here.
The merger made one administration out of two towns and it did not make them one place. Rapperswil is the historic half, a compact old town on a promontory below the castle. Jona is larger, more modern and considerably easier to deliver into. The lake narrows here to the point where a causeway spans it, connecting the St Gallen shore to the Schwyz side. That crossing is the short way in from the south and it is what makes this a junction rather than a dead end at the top of the lake.
Which route a vehicle uses depends on where it started. From Zurich, either shore works and the traffic decides. From the south or from Ticino, the causeway is the obvious approach. It is worth asking, because the two are not the same journey.
The town itself is a merged commune with two distinct centres. Rapperswil has the old town and the castle on the promontory. Jona is larger, more modern and more spread out. They are quoted differently and they should be.
Rapperswil-Jona also appears as Rapperswil and Jona. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.
Rapperswil old town occupies a promontory running out into the lake, below the castle, and its lanes were laid out for that shape rather than for vehicles. They are narrow, some are restricted, and there is limited room to stand anywhere near a door.
Deliveries there are arranged with the commune in advance and worked out address by address, usually with a standing point at the edge of the historic area and a carry from there.
It is also a visitor town in season, which adds traffic and reduces parking exactly when the weather makes moving easiest. Timing is worth a conversation.
If the delivery address is near Rapperswil-Jona rather than in it, try these.

The commune is Rapperswil-Jona and both halves are still used on their own in daily speech. An address may give either, and both are correct, which occasionally confuses a carrier working from a list.
There is also a Rapperswil in the canton of Bern, which is a different and much smaller place. Send the postcode, and use the full hyphenated commune name where there is any doubt.
Everything here is German speaking, in the canton of St Gallen, though the opposite shore across the causeway is the canton of Schwyz with its own administration.
These three are the ones that actually get asked about on a Rapperswil-Jona move.
Why the two halves price differently.
Furniture through an old town lane.
Sharing a lorry on the Zurich lake run.
The merger made one administration out of two towns and it did not make them one place. Rapperswil is the historic half: a compact old town on a promontory below the castle, with narrow lanes, protected buildings and vehicle restrictions.
Jona is the larger half and quite different, being more modern, more spread out and considerably easier to deliver into, with the housing and access patterns of a normal Swiss suburb rather than a medieval core.
A quote given against the commune name alone does not know which of those it is dealing with. Send the street and say which half you are in.

Either along a shore of Lake Zurich from the Zurich direction, or across the causeway that spans the narrow point of the lake from the Schwyz side. Which route suits depends on where the vehicle started, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.
Not usually to the door. The promontory lanes are narrow, some are restricted and there is little room to stand near a building. Deliveries are arranged with the commune in advance, with a standing point at the edge of the historic area and a carry in from there.
Yes, in the canton of Bern, and it is a different and much smaller place. Send the postcode, and use the full hyphenated commune name Rapperswil-Jona where there is any doubt, particularly on anything a carrier will work from as a list.
In the old half, yes. It is a visitor town and summer brings traffic and takes parking exactly when the weather makes moving easiest. If your dates have any flexibility, it is worth asking the mover which weeks are worst before committing.
St Gallen. The opposite shore across the causeway is the canton of Schwyz with its own administration, which matters if you are comparing the two sides of the lake, since registration and cantonal rules differ between them.
Jona, generally. It has the housing and access patterns of an ordinary Swiss suburb, with room to stand and lifts that will usually take a wardrobe. Rapperswil old town involves a standing point at the edge and a carry, which is time.
