Lugano is the largest city in Italian speaking Switzerland and a financial centre in its own right. It also sits on a slope between two mountains, which means the address matters more here than in almost any other Swiss city.
The Alps sit between Ticino and the rest of Switzerland, so a vehicle already in northern Italy has a far shorter run here than one starting in Zurich. Shared loads to Lugano join a different flow of traffic because of it, and they can wait longer to fill, since that flow is thinner. Say Ticino at enquiry rather than treating this as a longer northern delivery. Once the lorry arrives, the ground takes over. The city occupies a narrow strip of level ground at the head of the lake and then climbs, hard, on both sides. Monte Brè rises to the east and San Salvatore to the south, and the residential streets run up between them in terraces linked by steep roads and, in places, by funicular.
A delivery to the centre or to Paradiso along the water is an ordinary city job. A delivery to a villa halfway up either slope frequently is not, because the access road narrows, turns tightly and sometimes stops short of the property altogether.
That is why a Lugano quote written from a postcode is unreliable. Send the street and say how the property is reached from it, including any steps between the road and the door.

People arriving from German speaking Switzerland routinely underestimate this. It is not a region where German will carry you through the paperwork, and a delivery note prepared in Zurich may need translating before it is useful to the crew.

The residential slopes above Lugano were built in layers, and the roads serving them were cut to reach houses rather than to accommodate lorries. They narrow as they climb, hairpin between retaining walls, and in several places end in steps or a private track.
Where a vehicle cannot reach the door, the goods transfer to something smaller at the nearest practical point and go up from there. That is routine here and crews do it constantly, but it is a separate stage with its own cost and it needs raising at enquiry rather than at the bottom of the hill.
The flat ground is limited to the centre, Paradiso and the immediate lake shore. Everywhere else, assume the question will be asked.
