Most people planning a first international removal compare prices before they understand what they are comparing. Two quotes that look alike can differ by a thousand pounds of work, and the difference is almost never in the shipping. It is in the packing, the access and what happens at the far end.

The surveyor sent by the international moving company walks the house, lists what is going, sees the stairs and the street, and turns it into a volume in cubic metres. Every figure after that depends on that number being right.
Guessing low is the classic international removals error made before any moving company arrives and it surfaces on collection day, which is the worst possible moment. Open the loft, the garage and the shed. Rural properties in this county should walk the surveyor round every outbuilding, because that is where the extra cubic metres hide.
A video survey is fine for a modern estate house, and most overseas movers offer one. Export cartons used by international movers are double wall. Books go in small ones because a large box of books fails at the base. Furniture is dismantled where it comes apart, blanket wrapped and corner protected, and glass, mirrors and marble travel in crates built to size.
Packing some of it yourself does save money, with one catch: nobody insures a carton they did not fill. Clothes, bedding and paperbacks are safe enough to do yourself. Leave the fragile and the expensive to the crew.

Ask the international movers who the destination agent is by name. A moving company with a real relationship at the far end will tell you without hesitating. One that cannot is buying that service from somebody else and passing on whatever it gets.
Shipping is the largest single line and the extras are where quotes diverge. Storage, unpacking and any air consignment should each appear separately.
