Ten international moving companies handle Malaysian routes on this page. Four are part of the AGM Group network and are marked as such. The other six were read off the FIDI affiliate register for Malaysia on 16 August 2026, which is the accrediting body's own record rather than a roundup. None is ranked, and there are no ratings anywhere on the page.
Ten companies appear on this page and none of them is ranked, because no honest ranking is possible. There is no published, auditable measure that would let anyone order them, and a numbered list implies one exists. What is auditable is whether a firm holds current certification, so that is what was done. The six independent companies below were read straight off the FIDI affiliate register for Malaysia on 16 August 2026 rather than off their own websites.
International Removals Companies is a free enquiry service operated by Darren Benjamin since 2010. One suitable FIDI-certified moving company handles your enquiry, chosen on your origin, your Malaysian destination, your volume and your dates. Your details do not go to several firms at once. One contact. One quote.
Most households on these routes ship as a part load, sharing a container and paying for the cubic metres they occupy rather than for the whole box.
There are no price ranges on this page, and that is deliberate rather than an omission. Sea freight rates move with fuel, capacity and routing, and the routing to Malaysia changed materially when most carriers moved from Suez to the Cape of Good Hope. A figure published here would look authoritative and be wrong within months, and people plan around published figures. What holds steady is the shape of a quotation, and knowing that shape is what lets you read one.
The largest single variable, and the one you control
Charged by the cubic metre on a shared container. Measured after export wrapping, cartons and crating, not before, so a figure you calculated from your own furniture will read low and get revised.
The line that varies by British postcode
Crew time, vehicle and the run to Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway. A collection in Scotland legitimately costs more here than one in Kent. Sea freight does not change.
The line that separates two identical households
A booked service lift in a Kuala Lumpur condominium, a shuttle vehicle into a George Town heritage street, a driveway in Batu Pahat. Three different days at the same volume.
Usually included: Export packing, origin collection, sea freight, Malaysian customs clearance and delivery to your address. What sits outside varies by firm, so ask specifically about packing materials, dismantling, unpacking, debris removal and the destination clearance rather than accepting the phrase door to door.
The cheapest quotation is frequently the one measured worst. A firm quoting from a form you completed yourself will usually come in under one that sent a surveyor, and the difference reappears when the container is loaded.
A list of company names is easy to write and tells you almost nothing about how your move will run. These ten checks do. Put them to any moving company quoting on Malaysia, including the one your enquiry reaches. A firm that does this route regularly answers all ten without hesitating. The ten companies themselves are named further down the page.
FAIM is audited by Ernst and Young and held by a named legal entity, so it can be checked on the FIDI register in about a minute. A firm saying it is FIDI approved, or that it works with FIDI members, is not the same as a firm holding the certificate itself.
A good answer: the entity name, so you can look it up while still on the call.
Many British firms hand the Malaysian delivery to a local agent, which is normal and often sensible. What matters is whether they say so, whether the agent is named on the paperwork, and who you complain to if the crew damages a lift or refuses an upstairs carry.
A good answer: names the destination agent, or confirms their own crew, without being pushed.
Sabah and Sarawak run their own immigration authorities and assess relief against their own passes. Labuan sits apart again as a duty free Federal Territory. Having cleared Port Klang is not having cleared Kuching, and inside one firm those are often two different desks.
A good answer: names the state, not the country, and knows the second sea leg exists.
Limited liability pays by the kilogram. A forty kilogram sofa is worth forty kilograms, not what you paid for it. All risks cover pays the declared replacement value. Limited liability is frequently the default unless you ask, which is why two quotations can look alike and protect you very differently.
A good answer: states which level is in the price, and quotes the cost of upgrading.
Usually not. Owner packed cartons are commonly covered for total loss only, meaning the whole box going missing rather than the contents arriving broken. People pack their own kitchenware to save money and discover the exclusion at the claim stage.
A good answer: raises the exclusion up front rather than leaving it in the small print.
Free storage periods are common, often fourteen to thirty days. What is less clear is day thirty one, whether handling in and out is charged separately, and whether the goods are insured while stored. New build handover slipping and clearance delays are the two things most likely to push you past the window.
A good answer: gives the free period, the weekly rate after it, and confirms cover while in store.
A price given from a room count, without a video or in person survey, is an estimate. Volume is measured after packing rather than before, so a self declared figure almost always reads low. A surveyed quotation can still change, but the firm carries more of the risk.
A good answer: offers a video survey at minimum, and says whether the price is fixed.
Kuala Lumpur condominiums want a management form days ahead, a booked service lift and a damage deposit. George Town heritage streets will not take a container at all. Some quotations assume kerbside access and add the shuttle vehicle later. Send photographs of both properties and the street.
A good answer: asks about floors, lifts and street width before quoting, not after.
A firm consolidating to Port Klang regularly fills a shared container faster and passes the wait on to you as a shorter one. A firm running it occasionally has to sell you a sole use container or wait until the box fills, which is where long unexplained delays come from.
A good answer: gives a real frequency and the next few sailings, not the word regularly.
Ask for the claim window in days, who you notify, and whether the firm falls under an independent dispute service. BAR Overseas members come under the Furniture Ombudsman scheme. A firm confident in its handling explains the process plainly, and hesitation here is the most useful signal on a quoting call.
A good answer: names the claim window, the form, and the dispute route.
Stage 1: Export packing and collection from your address
Stage 2: Consolidation, where a shared container waits until it is full
Stage 3: Sea freight, six to ten weeks as of August 2026
Stage 4: Clearance, then the inland leg to your Malaysian address
Most carriers now route around the Cape of Good Hope rather than through Suez. Quotations still stating four to six weeks predate that change and have not been revised, which tells you something about the firm as well as about the timing.
| Destination | Sea transit as of August 2026 | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Peninsular Malaysia | Six to ten weeks | One sea leg, clearing at Port Klang, Penang Port or Tanjung Pelepas |
| Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan | Eight to twelve weeks | A second sea leg after transhipment at a Peninsular port |
| Kuching specifically | At the longer end of that range | A river port with a draft limit, so a feeder vessel is unavoidable |
Pets do not travel with household goods. The removal and the animal are two separate bookings with two separate timelines, and the animal's is usually the longer of the two. Malaysia controls the import of dogs and cats through the Department of Veterinary Services, and an import licence is obtained before travel rather than on arrival.
Requirements differ depending on which country the animal is travelling from, because Malaysia treats origins differently according to their rabies status. They also change, and a removals website is the last place that finds out.
Printing a checklist here would give you something that looks official and might be a year out of date, and the consequence of getting animal import wrong is considerably worse than the consequence of getting a sofa wrong.
What to do instead: take the current requirements from the Department of Veterinary Services directly, and from your own vet, at the time you apply. Start earlier than feels necessary.
Malaysia uses the ringgit and your removal is invoiced in sterling. Any rental deposit, property purchase, savings transfer or ongoing living cost in Malaysia sits in ringgit. Most people treat the move and the money as two separate jobs and pay more than they need to on both.
Currency exchange is part of what we help with. We have arranged currency exchange in any currency through trusted partners for many years, alongside the move itself. Flag it when you enquire and it runs alongside the shipping, at no extra charge for the introduction.
Experts in currency exchange
No hidden fees
5-star consumer ratings
Competitive exchange rate
The gap between agreeing a Malaysian property price and the point your funds actually transfer is measured in weeks, and the crossing itself is six to ten. On a purchase of any size, a movement in the sterling to ringgit rate over that period changes the sterling cost by an amount that dwarfs the difference between two removal quotations.
A currency specialist can fix today's rate for a transfer you need to make later. That protects you against the rate moving between agreeing a price and the money being needed, which is the specific risk on a purchase with a long completion.
Currency specialists typically offer better rates and lower fees than high street banks on transfers of property purchase size. The difference on a large transfer is usually far more than people expect, and it is the part of a move nobody shops around on.
Malaysia My Second Home and the separate Sarawak scheme both involve financial requirements, and those requirements are stated in ringgit. Anyone applying under either is exposed to the exchange rate twice: once on the qualifying funds and once on living costs afterwards.
Malaysia draws long stay residents and retirees more than most Asian destinations, which means more property purchases and fewer employer funded relocations. Where the move is self funded, the currency side is genuinely part of the cost of moving rather than a footnote.
Rent, utilities, management fees on a condominium and school fees are all in ringgit. A standing arrangement with a currency specialist typically costs less than repeated international bank transfers.
Malaysia requires an Approved Permit for vehicle imports. That is not a formality attached to the shipping, it is a separate authorisation obtained before the vehicle moves, and without it the car does not enter regardless of what the moving company has arranged.
Duty and excise on a private car imported into Malaysia is heavy enough that shipping one frequently costs more than buying the same model locally. That is not a marginal call in most cases. It is the reason most people arriving in Malaysia sell before they leave rather than ship.
Occasionally there is a reason: a vehicle that cannot be replaced, or one with a value that has nothing to do with its market price. Where that applies, treat it as a separate exercise from the household shipment, with its own paperwork, its own timeline and its own quotation.
Needed when a property sale completes before you are ready to ship, or when you travel to Malaysia ahead of your belongings. On this route the second is common, because the crossing is long enough that people go out to start work while the container is still filling.
Ask for the weekly rate, whether handling in and out is charged separately, and whether the goods are insured while stored.
Needed more often than people expect. Company housing on assignment moves is frequently allocated late, new build handover dates slip by months rather than weeks, and residence scheme approvals do not always land when the container does.
Ask for storage in transit to be priced on the original quotation even if you expect not to need it. Agreeing a rate in advance is far easier than negotiating one from a hotel room.
Storage sits outside the removal price on most quotations. Confirm the free period if there is one, the rate afterwards, and whether a tropical warehouse holds goods with climate control, because paper and timber do not enjoy months in one that does not.
Limited liability pays by the weight of the goods. A forty kilogram sofa is worth forty kilograms whatever you paid for it, and for most households the total falls well short of what replacing everything would cost. This is frequently the default level unless you ask for the other one.
All risks, or full replacement value, pays the declared replacement value. On a route where goods sit in a container for two months, are stripped and reloaded at a warehouse, and travel a second sea leg to Borneo, the handling count alone is an argument for the higher level.
For all risks cover you declare the replacement value at the start. Under declaring saves on the premium and produces an under payment at the claim. A room by room inventory with replacement values for the major items is what the firm will ask for.
Mould and damp damage occupy a grey area on many policies, and this route runs a container through the tropics for eight to ten weeks. Ask specifically how condensation damage is treated, and treat export packing as the actual protection rather than the policy.
Used personal effects can enter Malaysia with relief from duty, and the single most useful thing to understand is that the relief attaches to you rather than to your belongings. The same household entering under three different passes is assessed three different ways. Requirements are set by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and confirmed by whoever clears your shipment.
Malaysian import requirements are set by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and change without notice, so confirm the current position with the moving company before shipping. For the United Kingdom side, including Transfer of Residence relief on a return move, see HM Revenue and Customs.
International Removals Companies was founded by Darren Benjamin in 2010 and is registered in England and Wales, which can be checked on Companies House. Only firms meeting all three criteria below are used on Malaysian routes, and accreditations are verified against the accrediting bodies' own registers rather than against company websites. We do not accept payment for placement, because there is no placement to buy.
British Association of Removers Overseas membership. Brings independent quality checks, the Furniture Ombudsman dispute route and a financial protection arrangement for overseas moves, which matters because the risk on an international move is not only damage but a firm ceasing to trade while your goods are at sea.
The quality standard for international movers, independently audited by Ernst and Young. It covers financial stability and operational process rather than customer opinion, and it is held by a named legal entity on a public register, which is what makes it checkable rather than merely claimable.
Demonstrated Malaysian operations, including the ports, the customs position and the state entry control in Sabah and Sarawak. Certification does not test this. A firm with excellent credentials and no Borneo experience will still be learning on your shipment.
Your passport with the Malaysian pass or visa you will hold on arrival, an itemised packing inventory written as the crew loads, and the shipping documents the moving company prepares. Relief on used household effects is assessed against your status rather than against the goods, so the declaration is built around whichever pass applies to you. Requirements are set by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and confirmed by whoever clears your shipment.
Six to ten weeks by sea as of August 2026 to Peninsular Malaysia, plus several working days for clearance. Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan add roughly a fortnight because the goods take a second sea leg from a Peninsular port. Quotations still saying four to six weeks were written before most carriers moved from Suez to the Cape of Good Hope.
Because rates and thresholds are set by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and change without notice. A figure published on a moving company website reads as authoritative long after it has stopped being true, and people plan around it. The current position is confirmed by whoever clears your shipment, at the time they clear it.
Prohibited and restricted categories are set by Malaysian law and include weapons, protected wildlife products under CITES, counterfeit goods, and material that falls foul of Malaysian publication and content rules. Alcohol, pharmaceuticals and anything in commercial quantity need declaring rather than hiding in a household consignment. Your moving company issues the current list before packing.
It is possible and rarely worth it. An Approved Permit is needed before the vehicle enters, and the duty and excise on a private car often costs more than buying the same model in Malaysia. Where there is a reason to do it anyway it is a separate exercise from the household shipment, with its own paperwork and its own timeline, and it should be quoted as one.
Malaysia controls the import of dogs and cats through the Department of Veterinary Services, which issues an import licence before travel. Microchipping, rabies vaccination and health certification are involved, and the requirements differ depending on which country the animal is travelling from. Pets do not travel with household goods, so this is a separate booking. Confirm the current rules with the Department of Veterinary Services and your own vet before booking anything.
Malaysia uses the ringgit and your removal is invoiced in sterling, so any rental deposit, property purchase or savings transfer sits on the exchange rate rather than on the removal quotation. Currency exchange is included through trusted partners as part of the service: experts in currency exchange, no hidden fees, 5-star consumer ratings and a competitive exchange rate. Flag it when you enquire and it runs alongside the shipping. The partner confirms the rate, the fees and the terms before any money moves.
The network covers Kuala Lumpur, Penang Island, Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Port Klang, Ipoh, Seremban, Malacca, Kuantan, Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Batu Pahat, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, Kajang, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya on the peninsula, and Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu and Labuan in East Malaysia.
International Removals Companies works within the AGM Group network. Bishop's Move, Abels Moving Services, Gerson Relocation and Anglo French Euro Removals are part of that group and handle a share of the Malaysia work that comes through this page. Which firm your enquiry reaches depends on your origin, your Malaysian destination, your volume and your dates. We do not rank firms, we do not take payment for placement, and your details do not go to several companies at once. One firm contacts you, confirms the scope and gives the price. The service is free.
Most sites in this trade will not tell you who turns up. You send your details, someone rings, and you find out on collection day. We would rather say it up front, because knowing which firm is coming is half of what people are worried about when they fill in a form.
AGM Group network
A nationwide remover running 24 branch locations across the United Kingdom. That branch depth matters more than it sounds on a Malaysia job, because the survey, the packing crew and the collection all come from a local team who know your roads, parking rules and building types, while the sea leg runs on the group's international operation.
Suited to: households anywhere in the United Kingdom, particularly outside London and the South East.
Holds: Founding member of the British Association of Removers. BAR Overseas Group. BAR Advance Payment Guarantee. BAR Commercial Moving Group, certified to BS 8522. EUROMOVERS International. Movers Trading Club, an NVOCC registered with the US Federal Maritime Commission. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 27001.

Abels handles residential moving for private customers going from the United Kingdom to Asia and further afield. The work is aimed at households rather than corporate mobility programmes, which shows in how a job runs: one point of contact, a proper pre-move survey, export packing by their own crews, and a delivery plan agreed with you rather than with an employer's relocation department.
Suited to: private households paying for the Malaysia move themselves.
Holds: FIDI FAIM Plus, listed on the FIDI affiliate register. BAR member number A001. BAR Overseas Group, a section fewer than 100 UK firms qualify for. BAR Advance Payment Guarantee. International Association of Movers. Movers Trading Club. ISO 9001:2015. Royal Warrant for removals and storage services.

Gerson runs as two arms of one business, which is useful because a company move and a family move are not the same job. Gerson Relocation supports large multinational employers and manages mobility programmes end to end, which suits the energy sector assignments into Miri, Bintulu and Labuan. Gerson Moving Services handles individuals and families, with the emphasis on flexible options rather than programme management.
Suited to: employees relocating to Malaysia on a company programme, and separately, families making the move themselves.
Holds: FIDI FAIM Plus, with operations and management systems independently audited by EY. BAR Overseas Group. OMNI, the Overseas Moving Network International. EuRA, the European Relocation Association. Employee Relocation Council.

Anglo French runs cross-Channel road freight as its main business. On Malaysia work that matters for moves starting in France or Spain, where the household reaches an Iberian or northern European loading port by road rather than out of a British depot, which is the routing question that decides a European departure.
Suited to: European departures to Malaysia, and British moves routed through France.
Holds: British Association of Removers member. Guild of Removers and Storers member. Running UK to France removals since 1984, and part of the AGM Group network since November 2024.
No commercial relationship. Listed alphabetically, not ranked. Read off the FIDI affiliate register on 16 August 2026.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, and part of an international group with its own offices across the region rather than an agent arrangement. That matters at the delivery end, where the question is who actually unloads and who you complain to if something goes wrong.
On the register: FIDI FAIM PLUS.
Based in Shah Alam in Selangor, twenty five kilometres from Port Klang, which is the shortest inland leg of any major Malaysian destination. Part of a network operating across Asian markets, so regional moves within Asia sit inside the same organisation.
On the register: FIDI FAIM.
Based at Batu Caves in Selangor. The only Malaysian affiliate on the register carrying the Top Performer mark, which means zero non-compliant values recorded on audit day. That is a genuinely difficult result and it is the one distinction on this page that is independently verifiable.
On the register: FIDI FAIM, and a FAIM Top Performer.
Based in Kuala Lumpur. Holds the higher FAIM PLUS tier, which is the same audit taken further rather than a different scheme. A Malaysian firm rather than a local office of a global brand, which some people prefer at the destination end and others do not.
On the register: FIDI FAIM PLUS.
Based in Kuala Lumpur and working the Klang Valley, which is where most arrivals land and where the delivery problem is the building rather than the distance. Condominium access, booked service lifts and management forms are the daily work on that ground.
On the register: FIDI FAIM.
Based in Shah Alam in Selangor, and part of a global relocation business rather than a moving company alone. That breadth suits corporate assignments where the shipment is one line in a larger mobility package, and matters less on a self funded family move.
On the register: FIDI FAIM PLUS.
