Plenty of people book international removals and keep the property here. A posting with an end date, a first year abroad you want to be able to walk back from, a house you would rather let than lose. No moving company guide writes for that, and it changes almost every decision on the job.
Our part is simply matching. There are no lorries behind this. Enquiries about overseas removals go to accredited international removals companies inside AGM Group, and the overseas moving company suited to your route replies with one price.
Morpeth is a comfortable town to work in. The county town, the A1 on its edge, Newcastle a straightforward morning away. International movers reach it without trouble and the streets around the market place are the only awkward part.
What is not straightforward is the shipment itself, because you now have three destinations instead of one. Some things go abroad, some things stay in the house, and some things belong in neither place.
These three routes look similar from the outside and they give removal companies completely different shipments. Settle this before anybody surveys the property, because the surveyor needs to know which rooms are being emptied.
Furnished lets need beds, sofas, a table and white goods staying put, so international movers load far less. That is a large volume you are not shipping, which frequently drops the whole job a price band.
What you do ship becomes personal and specific: clothes, books, the things that make a house yours. It is a smaller, more valuable load.
Usually the easiest version. Furniture stays, you ship personal effects, and there is somebody in the building who can let a delivery in or post you the thing you forgot.
Agree in writing what may be used and what must not be, because "the good dinner service" means different things to different people.
The trap. Most home insurance restricts cover once a property stands unoccupied beyond a set period, frequently 30 to 60 days, and contents cover is the first thing affected.
Check that before deciding to leave furniture behind. Storing it may cost less than insuring a full house nobody lives in.
Where the posting has an end date, shipping everything is frequently the wrong answer for an international relocation. Containerised storage here costs a weekly rate. Shipping a three piece suite to Singapore and back costs two international removals.
The arithmetic is simple enough to do on a envelope. Take the weekly storage rate, multiply by the months you expect to be away, and set it against the cost of shipping that volume twice. On anything under about three years, storage usually wins.
Ask international removal companies to quote both together. An international moving company that prices the shipment and the storage as one job can hold your goods and your booking, and that is far simpler than dealing with two companies.
Bands from what removal companies quoted on Morpeth collections in the year to August 2026. None is an offer. The right hand column is a typical part shipment where furniture stays behind for tenants.
| The house | Whole household shipped | Personal effects only |
|---|---|---|
| Two bedrooms | £1,680 to £3,190 | £860 to £1,640 |
| Three bedrooms | £4,720 to £6,690 | £1,590 to £2,980 |
| Four bedrooms | £7,410 to £11,340 | £2,240 to £3,910 |
| Storage here, per week | — | £18 to £56 |
Leaving a house furnished for tenants can halve the shipping figure. That is the largest single saving available on this page and it costs you nothing at all.

Usually not. Under about three years, storing the bulky things here tends to beat shipping them out and back again.
Check with your insurer first. Most policies restrict cover once a property is unoccupied beyond a set period, and contents go first.
A little, since the fixed costs spread over less volume. The total is still far lower and that is what you actually pay.
Which rooms are being emptied and which are staying dressed. Without that they measure the whole house and quote for a job you do not want.
Yes, and it is worth insisting on. One company holding the goods and the booking is much simpler than coordinating two.
Mostly. The A1 runs past the town and Newcastle is a comfortable morning. The streets around the market place are the tight part.
Write one valued removals list for what sails and a second for what goes into store. The first serves the customs entry and any claim abroad. The second is what you will check against in two years when the module is opened, by which time you will have forgotten half of it.
Where furniture stays in the house for tenants, list that too and keep it with the tenancy paperwork. It is not a customs document and it settles arguments later.
On the way back into Britain, transfer of residence relief has conditions about how long you were abroad, and GOV.UK publishes them. A retained UK property can affect how that is assessed, so read it early.
Newcastle is close and the A1 brings plenty more within range, so international moving companies reach Morpeth easily. Overseas movers treat the county town as ordinary territory.
What varies is whether a firm will price a split job properly. Some overseas movers quote the shipment and treat storage as an afterthought. The one you want puts both on one document with the weekly rate visible, so you can see the trade you are making.
Then the usual checks. Which scheme audits them, how often they load for your destination, and the name of the agent taking delivery abroad.
Rent coming in here and rent going out abroad both need moving between currencies, so we include access to currency exchange through trusted partners.

This is not insurance, tax or letting advice. Unoccupancy limits are set by your own insurer and differ between policies. Tenancy obligations and any tax position on a retained property are matters for a solicitor or an accountant.

Send the NE61 postcode, the destination, your date, and say whether the house is being let, lent or left. One vetted partner prices both piles on one document.
