The first capital of modern Greece kept its old quarter intact, and that quarter is paved in polished stone, largely pedestrian, and overlooked by a fortress reached on foot. Delivering into it means a small vehicle to the edge and a carry from there.
Outside the old town, Nafplio is one of the easier addresses in the Peloponnese: good roads, about two hours from Piraeus, and no sea leg at all.
