Almost every container bound for Athens arrives at Piraeus, eight miles from the centre. It is a working commercial port handling enormous passenger volumes alongside freight, and the leg from the quay to your flat is a separate job from the sea crossing that preceded it.
That last eight miles is where an Athens delivery is actually decided, because what happens at your building matters more than anything that happened at sea.
Athens is apartment stock almost everywhere. Lifts in older blocks were built for people rather than furniture, stairwells turn tightly, and balconies are often the only realistic way to get a sofa into a fourth-floor flat. An external furniture lift is a normal part of an Athens delivery rather than an exception.
Streets add the second constraint. Much of Pangrati, Koukaki, Exarchia and Kypseli will not take a full-size vehicle, so the load transfers to something smaller before it arrives.
