Warm air trapped in a steel box carries moisture. At sea the box cools at night and heats by day, and that moisture condenses on the roof and runs back down onto what is underneath. The trade calls it container rain, it is entirely normal, and nothing damages more goods on a long sea route. Goods packed damp make it far worse, which is why it matters more here than inland.

Tools, bicycles, garden furniture and anything chrome. Wash it, dry it properly, oil what needs oiling. Overseas movers will not do this for you. Salt left in place will keep working on the metal for the whole voyage.
Container desiccant products absorb airborne moisture during the voyage and are routine on long routes. Ask whether they are included or an extra. Ship from a coastal town and you want them either way.
Condensation runs down and collects. A good crew loads vulnerable items high. Floor level is where the water collects. Worth asking how they load if your goods include anything you would grieve losing.

Streets around the harbour are narrow, busy and short of anywhere a large vehicle can stand. Expect either a bay arranged in advance through the council or a smaller vehicle shuttling to a larger one parked further out.

Then photograph condition before packing. Not appearance, condition, including any existing rust or marks. If mould or corrosion is disputed at the far end, a dated photograph taken in your own hallway is the strongest evidence you will ever have.
The usual customs rules apply otherwise. Most destinations grant relief on used household goods owned and used for a set period, commonly six months, where you are genuinely transferring residence. Inbound to the United Kingdom, that is Transfer of Residence on the ToR1 form through HMRC, applied for before the goods arrive.
Timber moves with moisture. A chest of drawers that has stood in a Weymouth hallway for years carries more water in its grain than the same piece would inland, and a sealed container is where that becomes a problem.
Give solid wood a fortnight indoors somewhere heated before packing. Upholstery too, since foam and fabric hold damp longer than they look. Dismantling helps here as well, because air reaches the inside faces of a wardrobe taken apart.
Metal furniture fittings need the salt washed off. Handles, hinges, castors and bed bolts corrode quietly through a long voyage, and a wardrobe delivered with seized hinges is a repair nobody budgeted for.
