Late September into early October is when the academic year starts and local demand for vehicles, crews and short term storage is at its highest. The mirror problem happens at the end of June when contracts end and people leave.
Shifting your collection by a fortnight either side of those windows generally buys you a better price, more choice of dates, and a shorter wait if you are sharing space on a part load. It is the cheapest saving available on this journey and it costs you nothing but a little planning.
If your dates genuinely cannot move, say so at the first conversation. Fixed dates push you towards sole use of a vehicle, and that needs pricing honestly rather than being discovered later.
This is the question that decides the shape of the whole removal. Shipping an entire household for a twelve month contract, then shipping it back, is an expensive way to store furniture. A part shipment plus storage in Britain is often the better answer.
For a three year post or an open ended one, the sums usually flip the other way. Bringing your own things and settling properly beats living out of a rented flat with borrowed furniture.
Rolling academic contracts create a particular pattern: arrive, take temporary accommodation, find something permanent, then possibly move again between terms. Where your belongings sit during those gaps changes the cost significantly.

Relief from import duty on personal property comes from Council Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009: your normal home outside the EU for at least 12 continuous months, goods owned and used for at least six months before you left, and entered for free circulation within 12 months of establishing residence. Alcohol and tobacco get no relief. You will need an EORI number and proof of your Olomouc address.
One point that catches academics specifically. The 12 month window in Article 7 runs from the date you establish your normal home, and the goods may arrive in several separate consignments inside it.
