Vevey sits on the Lake Geneva shore between Lausanne and Montreux, with the terraced Lavaux vineyards climbing directly behind it. It is a small town with a large corporate presence, and both of those facts shape how a removal here is run.

Lavaux terraces start where Vevey's flat ground runs out

There is not much flat ground. The town occupies a shelf between the water and the slope, and the vineyard terraces begin almost immediately behind it. Everything arrives along the lakeside road, which is busy, and everything above that road climbs.

For deliveries at lake level the job is ordinary. For anything on the terraces above, the roads narrow quickly, turn tightly between the vine walls and in places have no practical stopping point at all. Those are shuttle jobs and they should be quoted as such.

Because the town runs into Montreux along the same shore, a vehicle serving one is serving the other, and both are covered on the same runs.

Vevey also appears as Swiss Riviera and Lavaux. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.

Deliveries above the lakeside

The slopes behind Vevey are terraced vineyards, worked land rather than ornamental, and the roads serving them were built for that work. They are narrow, they turn between stone walls with no give in them, and they climb at gradients that a fully loaded long vehicle will not enjoy.

Properties up there frequently have stepped approaches from the road and no vehicle access to the door. A crew that knows the area will plan a shuttle from the start, with the main vehicle standing lower down.

The saving grace is distance. Nothing here is far from the lake road, so a shuttle stage is short even where it is unavoidable.

💼 A small town with big employers

Corporate arrivals on the Riviera

Vevey has an unusually large corporate footprint for its size, which brings a steady flow of international arrivals with relocation policies behind them. That means fixed start dates, authorised volumes and a named contact in human resources.

Delivery vehicle on the final stretch into Vevey

Read the policy wording before briefing anybody. It will use American phrasing, moving company and household goods shipment rather than removals, and what it authorises is usually more specific than people remember being told.

It also means return moves are frequent, and the return leg is a different paperwork exercise from the arrival rather than the same one backwards.

🌊 Vevey and Montreux, one shore

Why the pair are quoted together

The two towns sit on the same stretch of shore and share an urban area, so a mover serving one is almost always serving the other on the same run. That is useful: it means shared loads to this part of the lake fill more readily than they would for either town alone.

What differs between them is character rather than logistics. Montreux is the busier and more seasonal of the two. Vevey is quieter and more residential, with more corporate housing.

If your address is between them, or on the slope above either, give the exact street rather than the town. On this shore the street decides the job.

Vevey questions

Is Vevey easy to deliver to?

At lake level, yes. The town sits on a narrow shelf between the water and the slope, reached along the lakeside road from Lausanne, and deliveries there are ordinary. Anything above that road climbs into the vineyard terraces, where access changes considerably.

What happens if my address is up in the vineyards?

The main vehicle stands lower down and the last stretch is shuttled. The terrace roads are narrow, turn between stone walls and often have no practical stopping point, and many properties have stepped approaches with no vehicle access to the door. The distances are short, but it is a separate priced stage.

Do you cover Montreux as well?

Yes, and usually on the same run. The two towns share a stretch of shore and an urban area, so a vehicle serving one is serving the other. That also means shared loads to this part of the lake fill more readily than they would for either town on its own.

My employer is arranging the move. What should I check?

The authorised volume, whether storage is included and for how long, and whether vehicles, pets and high value items are excluded. Read the policy wording rather than relying on what you were told, and ask the mover to quote anything beyond the authorised scope as separate lines.

What language will everything be in?

French, throughout the canton of Vaud. The commune, your lease, the building management and any parking application will all be in French. Give the mover the address exactly as your Swiss lease writes it rather than translating any part of it.

How short is the inland leg?

Short. Geneva sits on the French frontier and Vevey is along the lake from there, so once a vehicle is through the Swiss border it has an ordinary run on good road with no pass and no altitude. The variable on this route is rarely the driving.

Can you move me back out at the end of a posting?

Yes, and it is common here given how many arrivals are on fixed term contracts. The road runs the same way in reverse, but the paperwork is a separate exercise, because you are then dealing with import into the destination country rather than into Switzerland.
