Ask the surveyor to start upstairs. Five minutes on the top floor tells them the crew size, the dismantling time and whether anything needs a window and a hoist, which is a different quote entirely.
Where a piece will not go round a turn, the international movers decide early, the choice is to take it apart properly or leave it behind. Proper dismantling means to its components with every fixing bagged and tied to the largest section, not merely removing the legs.
Flat packed furniture is the honest problem. Carcasses weaken every time they are taken apart and rebuilt, and some will not survive both a dismantle and a six week sailing. A good surveyor will say which pieces are worth their container space.
The alternative is a window. Where a hoist or a through-window lift is genuinely needed it changes the crew and the equipment, so it belongs in the quote instead of appearing as a surprise.

Cartons from a loft room are packed lighter than elsewhere, because carrying a heavy box down a steep turning flight with a hand on the rail is how backs and banisters get damaged.
The staircase is protected along its whole length, walls as well as treads, and the protection stays on until the last item is down. On a three storey house that covering is not optional.
