The first is volume. Every quote is built on an estimate of your cubic metres, and two figures that differ by fifteen per cent produce prices that look like a bargain and a rip off when they are simply different guesses.
The second is what is not included. Delivery at the far end, unpacking, customs charges abroad and any port storage are the usual omissions, and a low total that excludes three of them is not low at all.
Ask both international movers for the cubic metres. If they differ materially, one has surveyed properly and the other has not, and the cheaper one usually revises on collection day.
Then ask what happens at the far end. Delivery to the door, unpacking, waste removal and any local charges are all separate services, and whether they sit inside or outside a quote is the commonest reason two figures look different.
A moving company policy has two numbers: the total insured and the most payable on any single item. A quote with generous cover and a low per item ceiling protects a household and not a piano.
Destination charges belong to the country you are moving to, not the moving company. Duty, quarantine inspection fees and port handling are outside any UK quote, and a firm that pretends otherwise is guessing.
