Good furniture protection is what separates a proper mover from a man with a van. Expect blankets and shrink wrap for soft and wooden items, corner protection for tables and cabinets, and proper strapping in the vehicle so nothing shifts on the road. Fragile or high-value pieces can be crated.

Since Brexit, furniture sent from the UK to Germany needs customs clearance. Used furniture that is part of your household can usually enter duty-free under Transfer of Residence rules. Furniture moving within the EU, say from France or Poland to Germany, needs no customs declaration.
German access is worth flagging early. Narrow stairwells, older buildings without lifts, and city-centre parking can all affect how the delivery is done, sometimes needing an external hoist for large pieces. Mention any tight access when you enquire so the quote is accurate.

Moving between the UK and Germany means switching between pounds and euros. German landlords normally ask for a deposit of two to three months' cold rent (Kaltmiete) in euros before they hand over the keys, and that is usually the first large euro payment you will make. International moving companies price by cubic metre, not by room count or weight. A sparsely furnished three bed house can cost less than a heavily furnished two bed flat. Reducing volume before the survey is the most effective way to lower the figure.
Ground floor with parking outside is straightforward. A fourth floor German apartment with no lift, restricted parking and a narrow stairwell may need an external furniture lift. Describe access honestly at survey stage so it is priced in rather than discovered on the day.
June to August is peak season across the European moving industry, and prices rise while availability tightens. October to March is materially cheaper. Month-end and Friday collections are busier than mid-week, mid-month slots.
Furniture shipments to Germany land in three broad settings, and each has different access. A residential street delivery is the simplest. A city centre apartment often needs a bookable loading bay and a goods lift with a weight limit. Deliveries linked to a workplace, whether a university campus, a hospital, a manufacturing plant or a corporate headquarters, usually need site access arranged in advance and sometimes a security pass for the crew.
