A revised quote feels like sharp practice and is usually nothing of the kind. In almost every case the figure moved because a fact changed, and in almost every case the fact was one the household knew and did not pass on. Here are the six causes, ranked by how often they occur, and what stops each of them.

The fix costs nothing. Open every door for the surveyor, walk the garden, and say out loud what is undecided. A surveyor told that a shed is a maybe can price both outcomes. A surveyor who never saw it cannot.
Taking three cubic metres out often changes nothing, because the price sits in a band. It moves when you cross a threshold, such as dropping from a sole use container into shared space. Ask where your thresholds fall before you sell the wardrobe.
Freight space is reserved against a sailing. Shifting the collection can mean rebooking, and a summer date lost in May is not easily replaced. One move is usually absorbed; three rarely are.
Agreeing to pack the boxes yourself and then not doing it converts an owner packed job into a full pack on the morning. The crew size and the hours were booked against the original arrangement.

Freight rates move and capacity changes, so quotes carry a validity period measured in weeks. A figure obtained in February and accepted in June is not a revision, it is a new price.
Ask for the expiry date in writing at the outset. If your dates are uncertain, that one question tells you when to go back, and stops you finding out late.
Everything that is going, including the loft and the shed. How firm the date is. Who is doing the packing. Any vehicle, instrument, safe or machinery. And the destination address with its own access, which almost nobody supplies and which causes as much trouble as this end.
Then ask for the exclusions in writing. The inclusions matter far less. Exclusions are where the surprises live, and international moving companies word them very differently from one another.
Do that and revisions stop being routine. It is not that quotes are unreliable. It is that most of them are built on partial information supplied in good faith.
The commonest cause of a revised Verwood quote is furniture that appeared after the survey. A shed full of garden seating, a spare wardrobe in the loft, a dining set at a relative's house.
