In short: The Netherlands borders Germany, so a move between them is short, often a day by road. Both are in the EU, so there is no customs barrier for household goods. The border runs alongside North Rhine-Westphalia, with Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Munster among the closest German cities.

This is one of the easier international moves. The two countries share a long border, so road transit is short, often a single day depending on your start and end cities. As an EU move, there is no customs barrier for household goods and no import paperwork. Before you leave, deregister your Dutch address (uitschrijven) at your municipality if you are ending your residence in the Netherlands. On the German side, register your new address through Anmeldung at the local Bürgeramt within 14 days of moving in.
The German confirmation letter, the Anmeldebestätigung, is useful for setting up the rest of your life, from a bank account to utilities.
For a smaller move, a part load keeps the cost down by sharing vehicle space. For a full home or a fixed date, a dedicated vehicle is faster. Access at both ends, stairs, parking and building type, affects how the move is done, so mention it when you enquire.

Almost all UK to Germany road freight crosses at the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone or by ferry from Dover to Calais or Dunkirk. From there the standard corridor runs east through Belgium on the E40, crossing into Germany near Aachen and joining the A4 and A3.
The A3 runs from the Dutch border south-east through Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg to Austria. The A2 runs east from the Ruhr through Hannover to Berlin. The A7 runs the full length of the country from Flensburg on the Danish border south to Bavaria. Most German deliveries use one of these three.
Intercontinental sea freight enters at Hamburg or Bremerhaven on the North Sea. Baltic ferries from Sweden and Finland arrive at Lübeck-Travemünde, Kiel and Rostock. Air freight goes through Frankfurt Airport, which handles more cargo than any other airport in Europe.

International moving companies price by cubic metre, not by room count or weight. A sparsely furnished three bed house can cost less than a heavily furnished two bed flat. Reducing volume before the survey is the most effective way to lower the figure.
Ground floor with parking outside is straightforward. A fourth floor German apartment with no lift, restricted parking and a narrow stairwell may need an external furniture lift. Describe access honestly at survey stage so it is priced in rather than discovered on the day.
June to August is peak season across the European moving industry, and prices rise while availability tightens. October to March is materially cheaper. Month-end and Friday collections are busier than mid-week, mid-month slots.
