Two Flemish cities have low-emission zones (LEZ) that affect removal vans: Antwerp and Ghent. Both cover the city core and the inner ring roads. The LEZ covers the city centre and inner ring roads. A removal van must meet the minimum Euro standard to enter. Most FIDI-certified movers use the right type of van. But always confirm this when you request a quote. It's a quick check and it saves time on the day. Give your exact postcode so the mover can check whether the LEZ applies to your street.
Bruges has a UNESCO-protected medieval centre with very narrow streets and strict vehicle access. Large vans can't reach some addresses near the Markt or the canals. A smaller van or a two-stage delivery may be needed. Tell your mover the street address and they'll plan around it.
For most other Flemish cities, standard removal van access applies. Parking bays can be reserved in advance at the local gemeente (council). A removal from the UK to Flanders is a Belgian import. Belgian VAT is 21%. That applies to the declared value of your goods unless you qualify for relief.
EU removal goods relief via SPF Finances (FOD Financiën) removes that VAT and duty. To qualify, you must be moving your main home to Belgium. Your goods must have been owned and used for at least six months. Relief does not apply to second homes or goods bought new for the move.
